Kirsten Dunst as Viggo's Wife?

Is she supposed to be his wife in this? I thought she would be his daughter considering their huge age difference...

reply

You're not supposed to judge this on the actors ages. Maybe the characters are in their mid 30s and 40s. Viggo certainly could pass for mid to late 40s. And obviously he's written to be older than her since he's the supposed rich playboy that wowed her with his wealth and sophistication.

Colette's false passport gives her birth year as 1931. Assuming they would choose to make the passport date seem close the character's real age, she is supposed to be 31 or so. That's about the same age as Dunst during the shooting of the film. She actually is in her early 30s; she just looks younger.

We don't know Chester's age, but he looks like he might be in his early 50s. (Mortensen himself will be 57 this year.) Twenty years - that's not such a huge age gap, especially considering that Colette is over 30. She is obviously much younger than her husband, but not bizarrely so. It's not like he's 70 and she's 20.

reply

We do know - from his grave marker - that he was born in 1914 and would have been 48 years old at the time of his death.

reply

In all honesty, if Mortensen asked, who wouldn't become his wife? Hell, i'd do it, and i'm a heterosexual male.

reply

Might wanna scratch heterosexual off after this revelation

Viggo's character was 48, not strange at all if his wife was about 40.

reply

Well the difference YOU call huge is only 24 years which is common everywhere in Europe!! I have dated many European women 20-30 years younger. Methinks you have been listening to TOO many ageist bigoted USA feminazis who try to control what they call "age appropriate" dating!! But jealousy will get them nowhere--USA guys are dating & marrying Europeans in droves!!

'Then' and 'than' are different words - stop confusing them.

reply

Ron Wood is 69, and his wife is 38.

reply

Yes and there's a reason for that explained in the film as well.
How lucky you are!
