I am just absolutely astounded by the ignorance and lack of empathy regarding suicide and even bullying in general. Suicide has nothing to do with weakness. Suicide is the result of a breakdown in someone's mind (many times a mind that is already ill). Sometimes there is a mental illness behind the suicide and sometimes a person just snaps and sees suicide as the only way to escape their pain.
You take a person like myself - shy, sensitive, people-pleaser, poor self-esteem - add in a young age (those who at the time are incapable of fully understanding the consequences of their actions), impulsiveness (which all teens have - some worse than others) and the cruelness of their peers and you have a perfect recipe for suicide.
Maybe you were lucky enough to have a good self-esteem or the courage to stand up for yourself, but that does not mean another person does. I can't imagine living day after day, being ridiculed, laughed at, picked on, harassed, talked about, verbally abused - not just for 8 hours at school but also at home (online, through texts, phone calls, etc).
People who commit suicide are ill and are in so much emotional pain that they can't take any more pain. They need to find a way to help cope with their pain. The only solution they find is suicide. If you can't understand that, then you're truly ignorant and just plain cruel.
Hopefully, you will never be directly affected with bullying (particularly your child if you have children), mental illness, and suicide. I would not wish that type of pain on anyone. People like you and the way you think are a part of the reason this society is so cruel.
