This is getting out of hand...

I hate to say it, but i think it's time imdb adds something to their top 250 algorithm that discounts votes from India.

I think a better solution would be that when you vote for a movie made in your own country or by your own countrymen it should weigh less.

Honestly I am not fond of Bollywood at all... Theyre films tend to be musical numbers or try too hard to be james bond knock offs... That being said most Hollywood movies that are blockbusters these days tend to be sci fi franchises or comic book movies or even terrible 3D animation films... in looking at this list there are also a crap ton of movies by miyazaki that i wouldnt even consider top 250. Sadly IMDB top 250 has become the nerd paradise for films... im sorry but ill trust afi's top 100 to this one anyday and always will... Those are at least critiqued and voted on by experts

I agree 100%, but Gangs of Wasseypur is definitely NOT like the rest of them. I'm not saying it's top 250 material, but then again thare are several movies I don't like on that list. But at least it's a movie for people with brains.

Elsewhere I wrote:

The flood of patriotic votes from India has obviously been caused by the popularity of this very subject in local media.

Believe it or not, Indian news sites or sites about the Hindi culture devote articles after articles about how many of their movies make the IMDB Top 250 list, to which they refer as some kind of cinema bible or something... While I haven't noticed any explicit urging from their part to the readers to do so, the latter react by creating accounts on IMDB and voting Hindi movies by the thousands.

A couple of examples:

There are many more where these came from.

So there.
