haven't seen any of the movies, should I start with this or Battle Royale

Which should I watch first?

The IMDB message boards you either die a good poster,or live long enough to become the troll

Battle Royal...so then you know what this really should've been

reply

Oh shut up. Enough with the Battle Royale crap. THG is it's own, why do you care do much if the author got an idea from someone else? It was an idea that was developed into THG and made into its own story.

If the OP is serious, I'd start with the books and then start with the first movie and watch them all.

reply

I don't have a problem with the hunger games book nor the author. My problem is with the film adaptation

reply

How is ripping off Battle Royale, and then ripping off Battle Royale 2: Requiem, considered to be "its own story"?

Read the Battle Royale novel then watch the movie.

SC's father served in Vietnam. Sarah Palin has served not one day in any branch of the US military, ditto Dick Cheney, ditto Karl Rove. You want to see draft-dodgers? Turn on Faux Noose.

I see you've posted long enough to become the troll. Shame

I'm asking a serious question

I've decided not to watch battle royal because of all the idiots on this board bitching about THG being a rip-off. It could be the best action movie ever but the over-whelming obnoxious behavior from the so-called fans have made me hate a film I haven't seen.

Not many likes mockingjay 1 because they said it was too slow. It followed the book pretty well. *spoiler below*

Personally, I thought some of the lines we terrible- specifically the entire scene with katniss after the bombers blew up the hospital. Awful dialogue and acting

However, I thought the rebel invasion of the Dam was awesome because of the music and the tone.

reply

No no. People didn't like Mockingjay 1 because it was literally a 1:30 trailer for MJ 2. Everything that was in part 2 could have easily been 10-30minutes of Part 2.

reply

The same could be said for any recent sequels. The hobbit could've been a single 3 hour film rather than 3 3-hour films. Mockingjay had some parts that could've been cut but it did follow the book well enough, and I didn't think it was as bad as you make it sound.

reply

couldn't have put it better myself. Same reason any Gantz, Akira, or Naruto flick would flop...names strike a note only with the media lovers and is considered corn to the general masses. further the media loving crowd will yawn if its not way beyond their wildest expectations visually and conceptually.

There have been hundreds (if not thousands) of inventions that were simultaneously invented by more than one person; including the cotton gin, the radio, using electricity, light bulbs, and the telephone, where the inventors had no idea someone else was working on the project. The names in the history books though are the "first" ones to patent their ideas. The point is - it happens every day when someone comes up with something they think is unique but someone else, somewhere else, has already thought of it.

Removing the ending of BR2 sorta made the whole thing an insipid romance with no point like the Twilight series, but the American audience would have been up in arms if they left it in.

reply

Thats true. The BR2 ripoffs don't start until the Mockingjay plagiarisms.

Battle Royale is great Battle Royale II is crap, avoid the second film.

reply

Having seen Battle Royale first I feel I can weigh in a bit.
Battle Royale was a stand alone film. The Hunger Games (THG) came way after the fact.
While both follow similar 'instances' they both lead 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT story lines... in the end.
Meaning if you pit Battle Royale against The Hunger Games (movie/book 1) you'll see where the 'fanboys' come out to cry plagiarism. Problem is, THG goes further.
Therefore... if you want to watch a fncked up Japanese movie where kids killing kids gets you off - go for battle royale. If you want a toned down version with more to offer in the long run, go for THG.
It also helps that THG is in English... just saying. No 'great' film came from Japan... just saying.

You can go a long way with a smile. You can go a lot farther with a smile and a gun.

Akira Kurosawa produced some classics.

But Battle Royale is not that good of a film. I didn't read the book, but the film is much less significant than those couple of trolls with multiple socks that live on this board proclaim.

reply

Looks like they bit off more than they could chew when they plagiarized classic japanese cinema.

reply

Battle Royale 2 seemed more responsible in it's execution concerning the premise. Mockingjay came off as more a Twilight version of Battle Royale 2, if anything.

Even if your in it just for the 'hot guys', I'd go with BR2 first and foremost.
