Somebody explain something to me

The scene where mike is in Florida and gets a call from Robby that the lawyer has release the documents. Mike is drastic to get back to Boston.
Why couldn't another member of spotlight grab those documents? I thought this was a team effort

reply

This was not about grabbing a copy of the documents. The formerly sealed legal papers were being made publically available. He didn't want a rival paper to catch wind of it and break the story while he was gone.

reply

Why didn't one of his team members just go in his place?

reply

Anyone on the team could've picked them up (or attempted to). However, Robby knew that Mike was the one primarily responsible for getting the documents released and therefore knew that he would want to be the first one to see them. I think that's all it was.

reply

I thought he was racing back so they didn't 'disappear' again as they had done the first time he went there. Am I wrong about this?

reply

I ones disputing why he wanted to get back to the courthouse... just why HE had to. Couldn't someone else go get them, from the spotlight team?

reply

It wasn't merely his obligation to get the documents, he wanted them. He was both professionally and personally invested.

reply

It probably just boils down to human hubris ...
"I'm the one who figured out how to get at them, so I have to be the one who picks them up."

For all the talk of being scooped by the Herald, they dragged their feet a lot & did things exactly as they felt like doing them. Human nature.

reply

Good point. I wonder if that was all really true.

I was surprised they didn't highlight Boston's role in 9/11. The two planes that struck the towers both departed from Boston's Logan Airport.
