Martha

I'm going to miss Martha, just something about that young lady

reply

I too. She's only 17 and competing against people with decades more experience. If she sticks with baking she should go far.

reply

I was rooting for her from the beginning. It's hard to believe that she's so good at such a young age. I know this show originally aired in 2010 but this is the first I've seen of it so I don't know who wins but my guess is Richard since he's won Star Baker so many times.

Wow. You are unsympathetic. Do you interact with any teenage girls? That is what they do even in my high school classroom when they fail a quiz so imagine the greater pressure of being on a TV show.

Why is it those who post unsympathetic or harsh opinions are so thin skinned when they themselves are criticized?
It boggles the mind that you with rather strong opinions (i.e., calling a teenage girl who cries under stress a "crybaby") cannot handle even a moderately stated opinion about yourself (i.e., being labelled "unsympathetic").
Maybe it's just someone else's opinion, ok?

reply

I saw others cry. Kate for one cried more than once. Chetna was close to tears once or twice. Iaon sure looked like he was throwing a fit.

I just named 3

Iain through his entire dish in the bin/garbage because it didn't go the way he planned and he's a grown ass man! Martha still had the skill and finesse to make it to the quarterfinals. Her slight lack of maturity is quite irrelevant because she's an amazing baker.

reply

Iain didn't throw his dish in the bin simply because it didn't go the way he had planned. Watch that episode again. Diane takes his ice cream out of the freezer to make room for hers (then sets his on the counter). By the time he realized what she had done, his ice cream had melted and was ruined. I think his frustration and reaction was more from a fellow contestants underhanded selfishness that ruined his dish than anything else. I am surprised this was not addressed on the next episode, though clearly it was handled off camera because when they came back for the next episode, they said Diane would not be back to compete because she was ill. Seemed to me like they had to kick her off for what she did but didn't want the negative publicity.

reply

I don't remember her crying all that much. Sure, she was upset with herself when she made mistakes and was in danger of being eliminated but who wouldn't be? She wanted to stay and finish out the competition. It's not as if she was sobbing like there'd been a death in the family.

reply

I thought she cried a few times because she was under a lot of stress, having to keep up with people more experienced than herself, under tight time constraints, where often things happen that are beyond anyone's control, like an oven or freezer not performing well. Then having to be on camera while experts critique your work? One thing that's hard for most teenagers to do is admit when they're wrong (especially precocious, gifted ones), but she owned up to her errors and will surely learn from them. She maintained a sweet, humble demeanor, and even when she did cry, she did it quietly and laughed at herself for it later.

Martha is on series 5 that was filmed in 2014. The other 4 seasons are available on Youtube.

reply

When I did my post a few days ago, I was under the impression that the show had originally aired in 2010 based on some site I checked. When I get the time, I'm going to check YouTube for the others. Do they all have the same 2 hosts, not Paul and Mary but the 2 women who are hilarious?

reply

Same hosts and judges. I've watched the other seasons and have enjoyed all of them. Fun show.

Thanks, krasiva.

Well the fact that she was gorgeous was something...

I said I'd feed you...I didn't say who to.

She was very mature and smart for a seventeen-year-old, which is quite appealing. I hardly noticed her crying. On American reality shows today, inducing participants to cry seems to have become almost the entire point. It was refreshing to watch all ten of these episodes of GBBS with so little of it.
