Who else was in awe of this?

I was really impressed by this movie, and I think it couldn't have come out at a better time. Which is really interesting, considering Brit and Zal actually wrote it years before releasing it, and it really works even better now--not just as a movie, but as an eye opening experience. It really blew me away, I thought it was one of the best movies to come out in the last decade. The ending was especially important and dear to me, but I love that they were working towards a real message the whole time. I don't think the anarchist group was represented as purely righteous at all, I think they were shown to be obviously biased and flawed as well, but with good reason. I think after this movie, Brit and Zal could form their own Anonymous-esque group and have a huge following if they wanted. Brit was absolutely dazzling in this, I really wish she could get nominated for an Oscar already.
If you liked The East, have you seen Sound of My Voice and Another Earth yet? How do you think they compare?

I was totally blown away by this film, especially the writing and the completely new view of these radical groups in hiding in rural areas. Brit and Zal actually lived this life when they were starving artists. Thats COURAGE. What gives with Georgetown University becoming the new incubator of avante garde video writers. Plus "Scot Free" as the filming jugganaut for these young writers. LOVE IT. As for the cool acting style of Brit - makes Grace Kelly look like a hyper-Imogine Cocoa. Talk about a cool blond. Hitchcock would have loved her but its nice that she's too independent to be under anyone else's control.

Completely agree. The theme of the film and its treatment deserve praise and Brit Marling an Oscar nomination.

I've really loved Brit Marling's films and perspective, but I don't think she will ever have mainstream, commercial appeal. She's just way above the heads of the masses.

I still look forward to her work.

I was!

I sincerely wanted to move in with them! Their message was fantastic and if more people in the world felt like this group does, we'd have a much better world!

Indeed I was in awe watching this. It wasn't just a film, it was an experience. I've seen Another Earth and I liked it but I simply LOVED The East. I think i'm gonna check out Sound of My Voice.

Break the rules and in a couple of years you will have a hell of a story to tell.

Not me. To me it was just heavyhanded, porly executed, and nowhere near as well written as their previous films.
I loved Another Earth and Sound of My Voice, and was very much looking forward to this despite the casting of Ellen Page, who I find to be one of the worst actresses out there (and want to slap anyone who says she is good). Again she was awful here, but that's not what ruined the movie for me...it was the movie itself.

This review pretty much sums up exactly how I felt about what I feel is a setback for them.

This was AMAZING!!! It took me by surprise to tell you the truth and although there are some great films out there, it's been a while since I've seen such an interesting one!

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!
