Because 9-11 was an actual, real world tragedy.
It would have been a buzzkill for this movie.

shareHow would you even stop 9/11? Call the police and say there's going to be an attack? They'll probably think its a prank and do nothing, but after the planes crashes, they might come after you wanting to know how did you get the information.

I would prefer to go back in time to kill the prophet Muhammad. Or, if that's out of range, prevent the assasination that caused World War I and prevent all the unpleasantness it caused. Anything to break the current course of Marxist self-destruction and self-hatred of Western civilization, that is allowing Islam to take over the world.
