I think I missed something completely. Why did kenneth give his coworker all of that money? And what was the purpose of showing it. Shannon started to say something about his wife, then stopped and told Darius a message that she didn't pass on. Was it bribe money? Was it charity money? Was it money he stole and returned? Was it a bet? Did he hire shannon for something with that project? confused.

That scene emphasises two important things: that Kenneth may be an oddball but he's touched the lives of the good people around him, and that he genuinely believes he'll be leaving. In other words he's a good guy, and he believes he can travel through time. Shannon doesn't finish his comment about his wife because he doesn't need to. We only need a suggestion that the money is for a good cause, what he says, and the way he says it, suggests he needs money for his wife (presumably for medical expenses but it doesn't matter). To spell it out would be hitting the nail too much on the head.
