The Best Christian Film of 2014 is.... CA:TWS

On this message board, I saw a guy commenting about how he told his mom to see CA:TWS instead of Heaven is For Real because Cap was a better story of morality. I agreed, so I wrote a blog post about how I believe CA:TWS embodies way more virtues of the faith than any cheesy Christian flick.

If you follow any major world religion, you'll probably enjoy it. Check my post out and tell me what you think:

Coincidentally, my pastor at our church actually preached a sermon on this movie too. Too cool.

It's not a religious film, but I'd certainly watch it over the likes of HEAVEN IS FOR REAL or NOAH.

Heaven Is For Real is an exceptional film but it's not even apples and oranges. What I liked about it is that it's not cheesy. It's certainly not "Kirk Cameron bible thumping" by any means. It tells a compelling tale about what a child and a family actually experienced.

Cap is a great film about a hero with a high moral center. Compelling and well done but not comparable really.

Disney's stock has significantly outperformed the S&P since September 2011 and, consequently, over the last 10 years. DIS has a 5-year Beta averaging about 1.16.

To quote the captain- "damn right".

I'm not sure what's a Christian film, but I did appreciate the subtle use of faith. In the comic books, Cap identifies as a Christian. In this movie, there is one scene where is staring out at the distance quietly listening to church bells. And the Bible quote on Fury's gravestone - even if that was more a nod to Pulp Fiction. I think there is rich thematic elements to explore here.

"sad and self serving," really? That's a rather bullying tactic to try and stop a legitimate discussion.

Speaking as an atheist, it's not at all uncommon to see one's ideals reflected back to yourself when interpreting art and entertainment. So I don't view it as a need to give an automatic pan if you see some people taking a somewhat reasonable approach in this type of discussion.

Just because a character is Christian makes the whole movie a Christian film?..

WHAT?...

Steve Rogers religious views is barely ever mentioned in the films and after reading your post (not your blog), it looks like some christians are claiming that Captain America's films are centered around Christianity and that Steve Rogers morality, heroism and acts are coming from being a Christian.

So I don't see how these films are related to Christianity and how some people label this a "Christian" film.

It seems like you're trying to brag about Christianity by using Captain America as an arguement. Especially when a pastor starts preaching about in a sermon.

reply

no.....the point is there are themes in the movie that can be seen from a Christian perspective, not that the movie is made for Christians or something of the sort.

reply

Everyone is a Christian whether they realize it or not. Jesus Christ is the Savior regardless if you acknowledge it or not. It's like not believing that you're breathing oxygen. It happens whether you admit it or not.

Shut up, you jackass.

Those who refuse Jesus entering their lives are not christian, being christian is to accept Jesus as our lord and savior.

God let everyone to choose or to refuse him freely.

No question about that!

Not me. I'm a Satanist. Your evil blood god can pound sand.

Take your fairy tales elsewhere.

tall, good looking, important, FAMOUS dude with a perfect body , late 20s to early 30s(for intents and purposes) basically screaming virgin the entire movie. Find me ONE non-religious person like that in the ENTIRE world. A mainstream movie doesn't want to hit you over the head, but obvious is obvious

"what is your major malfunction numbnuts?!!"

reply

This was a non-theological film, which made it great. It shows success bases on logic and knowing right from wrong. It did not show blindly following the ideals of some book that some MAN wrote thousands of years ago.

reply

I don't think you understand. He is saying the movie agrees with many Christian principles. By extension, it also agrees with Islam, Buddhism and many other religions. It has nothing to do with the movie preaching about scripture.
