good god that hair cut!
Why? Why would they decide on such a horrible look?
shareThat haircut was VERY common in those days, but yes what a terrible look.

That was the popular hair style of the time.
No way! I never saw any pics from back in 1916 etc with hair like that. Shaved on the sides and back and hanging down in his face???
shareYou're correct, that wasn't anywhere close to a period haircut, unless we're talking about the early 2000s. I don't know why a couple of the posters think it was.
It was distracting, and a bad choice.
that was not popular of that time thy had all over longer hair and pushed it all back I would believe not shaved underneath like some futuristic movie like the 5th element or something.....I hated his hair too
shareThat was Jimmy's hair in Boardwalk Empire as well also in Peaky Blinders. I've seen some pics of gangsters of that era with that hairdo actually.
shareNo way I thougt he looked soooo sexy with that hair.
shareKept reminding me of Shemp from the Three Stooges
shareObviously, some folks here have not really seen a lot of photos or films from the time period represented in this film. It was indeed a fairly common haircut around 1915-1920. Shaved or very short on the sides and long on top and combed back. The scene at the dance when Colin Farrel's characters is all dressed up with his hair slicked back and pomaded in place shows the look as you would most often see it. Check out silent films of the period or stills from that time and you will see it. When the careful grooming wears off and the pomade is not in place, then the hair will flop down in front. A less extreme version of the hairstyle can be seen on T.E.Lawrence around 1919.
shareColin's hair was modeled after Long Duk Dong's hairstyle in Sixteen Candles, am I right?
There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?
Believe it or not, it was an actual haircut among the lower classes.
Especially in the early 1900s.
Have you seen "The Peaky Blinders" series?
Tommy, played by the great actor Cillian Murphy, sports just this haircut.
He's a 1919..ish..Birmingham UK gangster.
The haircut became popular after HBO's Boardwalk Empire premiered. You can also see that it was a haircut in the earlier 1900s, which is why Boardwalk Empire used it. It looked hot on the guys in Boardwalk.
Well, looks like the undercut hairstyle is back (skunk-look style).
Didn't suit Colin Farrell. And he was the only one in the movie with that 1900s hair! The horse's mane was more beautiful!

Didn't suit Colin Farrell.
No tears please, it's a waste of good suffering.share
