Honestly can't see why so many people dislike this movie other than the fact that there aren't any sex scenes, nudity, or bombs galore. I thought this movie was great, it had good dialogue, and I loved the plot line.
If you haven't seen it and you're curious just listen to yourself and go for it and make up your own mind about it. Or you can get back in line with the herd.

If you dont understand why ppl dislike this movie i feel sorry for you and your brain capacity. I can give you some clues...go read 100 things ive learned from After Earth thred and you will learn and understand the meaning of a bad movie...bad acting, bad writing, plot holes galore and boring...i dont care about sex, nudity or bad language...but these things above^^ i do care about, especially the writing since a good script without alot of plot holes is the most essential thing for a well made movie.

I disliked it because it's one of the few films I've seen recently that does almost everything wrong. The acting is poor (even Will Smiths), the script is cringeworthy, the direction was just generally cheap (while simultaneously trying to seem creative and different), and the special effects were disturbingly bad. I saw this in theaters, and the 4K transfer looked nice on the big-screen, but that's the only positive thing I can say about the film.
And of course the basic plot line was swiped from the Harry Harrison Sci Fi Classic 'Deathworld".
It cracks me up to see the Smith fanboys praise the movie's "original plot line" when it's swiped from a novel published in the 1950's that is considered a Sci Fi classic. I'll Teach You To Laugh At Something's That's Funny Homer Simpson
Have you ever seen dogs trying to herd sheep? It ain't pretty. Sheep pretty much do whatever they want. That's why they have competions to get them to cooperate. The cliche is wrong.
I'm glad I ignored the nay sayers and watched it, Will was excellent - playing against type. Jaden's character was annoying - buy on purpose. It was basically a two man survival film, which I enjoy.
I thought it was different in a good way - not your usual blockbuster. It had some depth. The hate for this is overblown. It's not perfect, nor is it a favorite of mine but it's an okay film.
Exactly my thoughts. I just watched this after putting it off after hearing all the bad things making out the movie was atrocious and i was pleasantly surprised. The father son dynamic was the strongest part of the film probably because they really are father and son so i think it helped it. Jaden was nowhere near as bad as people made out.
