Disappointed it's canceled

I guess I must have horrendous taste, but I enjoyed this show. I liked it better than Pan Am. I'm disappointed it's off the air. Anyone else feel the same way?

I'd like to see Pan Am get cancelled, too, then AMC pick them both up and get the Mad Men folks to run all three, including crossover episodes.

Social conservatives are cheering NBC's decision to close The Playboy Club, one of the most gay-inclusive shows of the new television season-Dawn Hawkins, executive director of Morality in the Media. Hawkins' group organized a petition campaign urging NBC to ax the show.

Parents Television Council carried out an aggressive campaign that included calling on its members and other concerned citizens to contact local NBC affiliates, and asking advertisers whether the Playboy brand aligns with their corporate image," PTC president Tim Winter, 'We're pleased that NBC will no longer be airing a program so inherently linked to a pornographic brand that denigrates and sexualizes women."

I'm a woman and I liked it - maybe cable will pick it up.

I don't think the PTC and their ilk have as much influence as they like to (make) believe. People just didn't take a liking to the show, the ratings dropped, NBC pulled the emergency break. As much as I like to shake my head over the prudes and the stick-in-the-muds, they probably got more people interested in the show than they turned off.

i like it much more than Pan Am but it was very controversial apparently.. smh

U know I can understand canceling a show that doesn't do well, but at the very least finish showing the episodes ordered. If NBC ordered 5 episodes then show the 5 shows for pete sake.
I am sad to see this go.

reply

yes, apparently. i say if they [the people who didn't like it] don't like then don't watch, but maybe they wanted to go one step further. i liked this show. but life goes on.

I'm disappointed as well! It was the only new show that I watched this season, Gossip Girl is getting kinda blah lately (or Im just getting old) and Pretty Little Liars doesn't start up again until New Years, so it was starting to become my favorite show. Playboy Club had a lot of potential, too bad it didn't at least get a full season.

I'm really disappointed NBC caved into the conservative groups & axed the show after only 3.

I admit, I didn't watch Mad Men regularly, but liked the fact a show was out there that was nostalgic(early 1960s) and not a reality show. NBC & ABC were good to pick up that vibe & try it their way. I'm sick of reality shows.

What did we get with TPC? A club that looked 10000 times classier & more fun than some dump downtown with a Golden Tee machine. That mother bunny doing her gigs was hot. People were classy. Sure, there was racism & sexism in the 1960s, but there seemed to be a higher social standard & level of self-respect.

What's sad is the timeslot will be replaced with Law & Order, where we get our daily fresh raping & killing of some victim. Somehow this is more acceptable than a club?

The Playboy Club was okay, I think Pan Am is better, however I agree canceling it after 3 episodes is extreme. I don't get why networks invest money into shows and then don't even give them a chance.
