What do you think 'one big scare' was?

Back when all the reviews were coming out, several mention one scare that was the biggest the series has ever had, but obviously they didn't specify so as not to spoil it.

So what do you think it was?

Personally, I'm not sure. The scariest part for me was the hair pull. But largest in scale was probably the kitchen furniture drop. I thought it would something from the last act, as several reviews also mentioned the last 15 minutes being absolutely terrifying, but there wasn't really a big scare in that section.

I find the part when Dennis is killed very creepy, but I don´t know if that was the scariest in the series.

The kitchen furniture drop was very effective, but it was just a classic jump scare to me. I agree with you about the hair pull, that part gave me the creeps, maybe they were talking about that scene.

I would guess that they meant the 'ghost' sheet part. That part made me want to wet my pants!

Ditto! For some reason, that particular scene really creeped me out. The way its's just standing there staring at Lisa... then disappears. Poof! I rewound it about three times to watch it again. (Glutton for punishment.)

Heck yeah! The ghost sheet part was a frickin spooky part!! WOW! I was like NOOOO WAYYYYYY!! A chill ran down my spine. Woo!!!!

reply

When the ghost sheet appeared I first thought it was Kristi trying to scare Lisa (remember that Lisa played that game before), then when it was poof! I realised that wasn't her and I was like "that was creepy", but that´s it.

The pull hair still creeps me out when I re-watch it, but maybe you are right and the one-big-scare was the ghost sheet.

The ghost bit was ace!

Camera pans across, sheet ghost. 'Oh, it'll be the babysitter again'.
No it's not
'Ahhh then it'll be one of the kids :)'
No it's not...

That scene has had a much more lasting effect on me than 99% of scenes in any other horror films. Loved it!

reply

The ghost/sheet part was one of the most chilling scenes I've ever seen.

reply

The whole ending with Dennis walking around the Grandmas house was really creepy for me. We didn't know what was around each corner and we had a first person view (like always) and it was just so effective. I don't know what the 'one big scare' was. Personally I don't remember hearing anyone say that.

"Why do people visit boards of movies they dislike to complain? Absolutely nothing else to do!"

reply

Did I see a different version because the biggest scare for me was when "Toby" attacked Katie. The start was slow with the figure under the sheets, then the papers moved, then the lightbright lit up, then the hanging globes and it all got more active.

Finally he grabs the sheet, grabs her. She tries to hide and the bed goes flying and Katie is dragged into the crawl space.

This was all soooo much more than anything in the other movies.

Little brother (Canada) needs to give his retarded Big brother (United States) a beating

reply

That could be it. That was intense. The buildup was great, as their room slowly but surely came to life. Then BANG! The sheets got snatched off, she went running, and then hit the ground! The entire audience yelled and screamed.

reply

I guarantee it was the furniture drop scene!

That was WAY more than the cabinet scene in PA2!

The last fifteen minutes would start when Toby messes with Katie and Kristi while the parents are preoccupied.

It is easier to critique than create

That collapsing ghost sheet scared me senseless. To me, it was about the creepiest thing I've ever seen. Even now, months later, if I start thinking about it (like now, ha ha) I start looking over my shoulder and feeling watched.

I know several people mentioned the hair pulling scene but that made everyone in the theater including me and my sons laugh. I do not mean nervous laughter either. I think it was because...well, it just looked silly. But no offense to its fans. The world would be dull if we all liked the same thing.

reply

I think the big scare was when Dennis found all those women in the shed outside.

Definitely made me jump!

reply

The only scare was the baby sitter saying boo into the camera.

Just re watched this while typing this, and this movie is a *beep* pathetic joke.

Right. Ive seen a 100 scarier movies

I thought that was the mom that jumped up saying "Boo"!

reply

I agree. This "scare" was very subtle, which in turn made it the creepiest to me.

reply

I agree jonesy the womens faces in first person view in the shed was just *beep* so scary and he starts backing up really fast running back to the house, I nearly *beep* myself

If i go crazy will you still call me Superman?

reply

That scared the hell out of me too. That was one of the scariest parts of the film for me.

reply

Yup, I agree with you.... scariest scene was when Dennis ran out the house and saw all those demon women slowly walking towards him... I'd freak out.

reply

Not sure if you've heard the theory of the difference between "creepy" and "terrifying." Creepy is when you do not know whether the subject (in this case, what's under the sheet) poses a threat to you or not. Terror is when you know the subject poses a threat. This is why the sheet scene is SOOO effective. First off it is the definition of creepy. Secondly, the scene itself is so practical that its beautiful. Lastly, because of the Found Footage genre, its like we're putting ourselves in the shoes of the characters. Easily the best scene in the entire movie.

reply

I agree!! Dennis walking around grandma's house, and seeing the pentagram on the wall, and then going into the garage and seeing the witches having their gathering. Through the windows of the house you saw a fire going, like witches at a black mass might have a bonfire where they sacrifice someone to satan. Pretty scary stuff!

reply

"The whole ending with Dennis walking around the Grandmas house was really creepy for me"

It's the beginning of that scene that terrified me. They hear the cars pull up, Julie leaves to check on the kids... and then Dennis starts calling her name. He walks off camera for a moment and standing in the background in the bathroom, staring at you, is, I think, Julie. Maybe the grandma (that would make more sense I guess). She's just standing there, and I didn't even notice until a second before the Dennis reappears and blocks the view for a moment. When he moves, she's gone.

annnnd now I'm spooked cause the house is making noise. nice.

reply

Definitely the Grandma. Julie was subdued at that point (IMO).

"They're all dead.....they just don't know it yet." - Eric Draven

reply

I thought it was the mother lurking at him then, while being under influence, like Kristi staring at the mother and Dennis earlier in the movie. For some reason it would seem wrong to be grandma, as she was too much in control to need to lurk

reply

When mom jumped out of the closet with the mask on, that made me jump, I actually think my heart stopped for like 2 second.

And the the ghost sheet part, when you see the "ghost" stand in the connor, and then the camera pans over to the babysitter sitting in the kitchen and the ghost is standing right behind her, first I thought it was one of the kids, but then poof!! the sheet fell to the floor, and whatever had been hiding underneath it had vanished, very chilling scene!!

reply

It would have to be the part where the blonde babysitter was in the kitchen and she jumped in front of the camera. That part scared the crap out of me for some odd reason lol

reply

For me it was the scene in the bathroom with Katie and the cameraman being attacked and tormented. That seriously rustled my jimmies.

agreed. that scene was really scary

reply

Very intense scene. Surprised nobody mentioned it sooner.

reply

Right with you there. I refused to play when I was a kid...still not sure I would lol. Call me a puss all you want.

He needs you, and that's very me.

reply

The scariest for me... was in the PA 3 Trailer... the Bloody Mary scene. I hate mirrors.

reply

Playing Bloody Mary
Christie running around late at night back and forth past the parents bedroom door, really creepy
