So, was there a curse?

Because the big thing the lead said was, "we all make choices," but she was stabbed (so it wasn't a choice she personally made), and it also showed the Native American stabbing her (though it was clearly her friend). Was he under the influence of the curse ... and how was he not caught? Why were they sitting there alone after that whole attempted home invasion went down?

Why am I even questioning this movie, it really wasn't very good.
