SPOILERS: I liked the first one better

I must admit I was a bit disappointed with this one. I thought they had to distort some of the characters in order to make the sequel work: I have a hard time seeing Otomo and Kimura burying the hatchet, or the Yakuza elders being at all surprised that Kato used foul play to take control of the Sanno-Kai. On a more sentimental level, I didn't like the way they made Ishihara into such an ineffectual coward, as he was my favorite character from the first film. I also liked Kato(mainly because he took so much petty abuse from the former chairman so it was nice to see him triumph) so I wasn't too invested in seeing him get his come-uppance. Some of the ultraviolence(the drill and Kimura's using his teeth to cut off his pinky) seemed a little too similar to similar sequences from the first Outrage. I did like the death-by-pitching machine sequence though. And Kimura's henchmen were quite likeable. And it was satisfying to see the sneaky cop get what was coming to him.

There's quite a long, complicated build - up and then it all seems to happen so quickly and easily for Otoma and Kimura, who suddenly have soldiers appearing for them from everywhere and 20 minutes of screen time later the Sanno-kai syndicate are decimated. For me the payoff didn't match the set - up.🐭

The Sanno are still almost as powerful as ever. But because of the tape, 90% of the clan families left Kato in the rain. I think only members of his family and the few loyal to him got killed. Remember that real Yakuza syndicates often include 20 - 100,000 members! No way Kimura could just kill them all with Otomo.

Me too, the first one was more vicious
