Why was this show cancelled

It seems like they find a show people really like & then cancel them. I don't get it.

It was cancelled because it lost its way when Cidre drove it into a taco stand!

Cidre had done a failed drama about a Latino family business called CANE and apparently wanted to do those storylines on the rebooted DALLAS - where they were wildly out of place. By the third season, the show felt like a drama about the Mexican drug cartel, not the Ewings of Dallas. Cidre really wanted a Latino imprimatur on the rebooted DALLAS, because every other character HAD to be Hispanic, whether it was realistic or not.

She also shot herself in the foot by having the show spend so much time on the mystery of Pam's fate, only to find out she'd been dead for 30 years. That's not where soap mysteries are supposed to go, and she would have had so much more storyline potential by having a (recast) Pamela back in Dallas, fighting for Bobby's affections and battling with John Ross, whom she once had loved as a son.

Cidre did get some things, right, though: JR's funeral was moving and effective. The eventual emphasis on Sue Ellen was smart and satisfying, and Josh Henderson was PERFECT casting as John Ross.

Patrick Duffy said in an interview recently that the show didn´t sell well outside the U.S. because the ratings were bad.

If they would have just tried to remember their history and incorporate it with the new characters and stories I think that it would have worked. They focused too much on the cartel. Plus although I think that the actor that played John Ross was a wonderful actor I couldn't stand that character. J.R. could do some bad things there's no mistaken about that, but he loved his family especially his mother. When John Ross did what he did to Sue Ellen I was smh. I was like J.R. never would have done that to Miss Ellie. I liked watching the Ewing boys respect their parents. Patrick Duffy once said that no matter how old they got mama and daddy were still mama and daddy and their characters respected their parents.

You're right. The fact that they ignored a lot of the original show's history got on my nerves. Ray and Lucy should have had bigger parts and they should have had storylines that used more characters from the original series. These reboots/remakes have built in fan bases. When writers get cute and spit in the faces of those fans, the shows don't last and movies fade into obscurity.

YOUR VOTE MATTERS! Please vote in every election. Thank you.

They should have used CATHERINE! Morgan Brittany was/is still gorgeous! HUGE opportunity missed! They should've used more original characters but not so much Ray & Lucy. Let's be honest. LOOKS meant a LOT in the original Dallas and Ray & Lucy both look like Ogres now!

I really liked it and it was getting better each episode, was shocked when it was axed especially with that clifhanger
i hate when america axes shows it does not like yet are loved elsewhere in the world.
I am sure another tv company could have picked it up even from another country and paid for it to still be done in dallas.
neighbours and home and away is not doing good in australia yet is very popular in the uk so the uk tv stations pay for most of it. so the same could have been done with dalls.

But the producers never seemed to notice this, and the show kept going back to Bobby's new wife's ex-husband's family or the Southfork maid's family and the Mexican drug cartel

Carmen wasn't the maid. She was the cook.

When Larry Hagman died unexpectedly midway thru Season 2, the producers seemed to know they were in trouble, so the best nuDALLAS ever got was in the last half of the second season as they focused on Who Killed JR? and how oldPam had died.

Hagman's passing was not "unexpected." He was diagnosed with cancer and battling cancer during filming of season 1. J.R. had a very minimal part in most of season 1.

And when the creator David Jacobs asked to be involved as a consultant, he was sent cease-and-desist notices like he was some kind of stalker (when that story hit the press, they met for a friendly lunch with Jacobs but he never heard from them again).

Jacobs himself had very little to do with the original series. Yes, he created the show and wrote a handful of early episodes, but his involvement with the series ended very quickly. He created Knots Landing and was very much involved with Knots for most of its run. His only other involvement with Dallas was writing the 1986 prequel TV-movie, "Dallas: The Early Years," but even he had to rewrite the script as he didn't know the writers of Dallas created a brother (Jason) for Jock. Needless to say, he wasn't watching Dallas either.

Once it was cancelled, they put out silly press statements attributing the cancellation to politics over one network merging with another, saying nothing about how ratings were now at a fraction of what they were when nuDALLAS premiered.

That's actually somewhat true. During the last season of Dallas, TNT got a new President who wanted to change the direction of the network. He not only cancelled Dallas, but a few other series as well, as they weren't in line with the vision he had for the network. Interestingly enough, one of the first series he greenlit for TNT as part of its new direction was Agent X, starring Sharon Stone. The series was a flop and was cancelled after 1 season.

They placed in charge someone who had not seen the original show and clearly did not care about it. Fans wanted to see the trials and tribulations of the Ewing Family not the never before mentioned Ramos Family, Elena's stupid revenge, and the Mexican cartel.
