Over-rated or under appreciated?

So. The Stooges.
Barely popular in their heyday, yet hugely influential.

Where do you stand on the band?

reply

They rock.

reply

Both. I'll take the original band over the "Raw Power"-era though.

Normal Is A Myth.

Not overrated by their fans. Underrated by everyone else.

Great doc!

When I was about 13 my mom gave me 20 bucks to use at the record store down the street. I walked out with "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and "Raw Power". These albums were considered so edgy back in the day. Now they are used in car commercials and *beep* Hard to believe how much times have changed.

The greatest rock and roll band that ever was. Seeing the film this weekend. Can't wait.

1969 thru 1974. Under-rated/appreciated - totally. No questions.
1975-1980. Under-rated- with appreciation & interest gathering during the "golden age" of "punk".
1981-2001. As time wears on, society & rock fans start to see thru the bullsh*t - somewhat. The Stooges - slowly & quietly take their position on the time-line of "rock n' roll" history. Take that as you like.... I'm sure Kurt Cobain & Co, were big fans--how could they NOT be? Everything is getting fully digested and cataloged properly - no matter how crazy *beep* INSANE it was back "in the day".
2002- TODAY:
Because that now- today - we are AT THE END OF CULTURE; Everything that was once a fetish, a foot-note, or was UNDERGROUND --- is now on the EXAMINING TABLE for all to see- and OVER EXAMIN ! And treated like it some rare fossil to be put in the Smithsonian . As if things lose all their original intents and purposes . Ya can't "shake things up" when you wrapping it in a pretty package with a satin bow tying it together.

Believe me- I am old enough to remember when Rocky Horror was a "cult movie" and nobody knew what it was.

Just mark it EOC (End of Culture)

The good stuff today is way, WAY underground. It's there, but you have to look for it.

The culture has not ended. Mediocrity (as a result of affirmative action/inclusion) has allowed a lot of shitty art to get mainstream attention. Real artists still exist and they're still pushing the boundaries set by the zeitgeist (the key is to understanding things is knowing the underground of 1972 is now the zeitgeist, so ideas that run counter to that are now what's underground and radical).

And yet they still have more teeth than any of the manufactured shit on the radio today.

Easily one of the #1's

I got so deeply emotional hearing that demo of "Gimme Danger" coupled with that hallucinatory footage of them jamming

I like the Stooges but OVER-RATED fits them pretty well. A few classic songs but a lot that show how limited they were both in song writing and musicianship. Don't get me wrong i grew up on oldschool punk so i like low-fi raw rock and roll but most Stooges songs have two parts played over and over haha.

Also how many shows did the original line-up even play back in the day? Seems like 10 lol.

I do love the fact that the got back together as old men and kicked ass and played tons of shows. I wish i could have seen that.

You're an idiot.

The good stuff is great just not enough of it.
Without them most of my favourite bands wouldn't exist so they are important but have been surpassed by the bands they've influenced.
