I thought Indiana Jones and Hellboy first (because of spear of destiny mention and WW2 context). But one of demon's listed in final incantations was Nyarlathotep, from Cthulhu mythos. Wich is compatible, Hellboy is linked to "Lovecraftian horror" (Great Old Ones/Ogdru Jahad).

This was a success on several levels, tense atmosphere, great set design and authentic looking props and costumes
