I've only ever really seen one Ghost Hunting show and that's Ghost Adventures so I could be wrong about this but Grave Encounters to me comes across as a rip off of GA. I'm not saying that GA is completely original either but they seem to follow the exact same formula and have cast actors who could look like they're playing the GA crew in a reenactment.

I was looking forward to watching this movie but I was instantly put off by the insane similarities to GA, not to mention the terrible acting.

While I agree, I think that this movie spoofed GA intentionally...I see so many similarities in the host of GA and Lance, that I don't think they ripped the show off hoping that no one would notice.

It's clearly a spoof of GA. Which is weird since GA is a spoof of ghosthunters.

I also thought it took a stab at Paranormal State. Lance Preston seemed like Ryan Buell and Houston a Chip Coffey or even Most Haunted from even earlier, so doesn't that show how unoriginal all those ghost hunting shows were?

That being said, I enjoyed this movie. I thought it was certainly one of the better found footage movies.
