The bathroom scene (where Mahmoud gets punched)
Was Mahmoud gay, and hitting on the protagonist? I felt like something was going on in that scene, but I wasn't sure I understood what. At the very least, Mahmoud was a pretty weird guy.
shareIt did come off like Mahmoud was hitting on Abe. However, the probable reason for Abe punching out Mahmoud was that Abe snapped and lashed out. He was anxious for a few reasons, including (but not limited to) Mahmoud coming back into Miranda's life and threatening her relationship with Abe, and (at this point) the possibility of Miranda giving Abe hepatitis. The fact that Mahmoud was so upbeat, patronizing and flippant towards Abe while he was a bundle of nerves must really have grated on Abe, and his emotions came to a head when he punched out Mahmoud. This event in the movie was yet another milestone on his road to total breakdown.
