Similar atmospheric films???

I am one of those people who loved film! I was wondering if anyone could suggest similar films with similar atmosphere. One of my friends suggested "The Orphanage" but any other suggestions? Any information would be helpful!

I just watched a Thai film called "The Unseeable" and it reminded me a lot of this film. It's on Netflix right now.

Already mentioned, but I also suggest The Orphanage, The Others and The Woman In Black.

judging by the wildly different films mentioned in answer to your question, it might help to include WHAT about the atmosphere you liked. Otherwise, to me, most of these answers are just people listing their favorite horror movies.
In my interpretation, the ones I would agree are like this movie are The Devil's Backbone and Saint Ange, although both movies are more gruesome. Also I would agree with The Others.
I would also include Neverlake. I offer these answers making the assumption you were intrigued by the mammoth, old and creepy European building and the lonely children. All these movies have that in common. Just mho

The classic 1944 film entitled "The Uninvited" with Ray Milland and Ruth Hussey
Groundbreaking ghost movie with special effects that was really superb considering how old the movie is.
Haunted mansion, spooky lighting effects.........screams in the dark......ghosts.
.......and best of all.......it's done in black and white or which ALL these movies of this genre should be done for atmosphere.
Well worth watching..........I highly recommend this movie.

Now that it's been two years since you asked, and I just finished it a few minutes ago, I can say that I actually second a couple of things people mentioned on here. I loved this movie, and it reminded me mostly of Haunted (1995), which is an extremely high compliment because I've loved that movie for 20 years. Secondly, it reminded me of The Lady In White, another movie I've loved for decades. The reason is because The Awakening, along with the other two, isn't REALLY a horror movie in the strictest sense. It's like...a drama with ghosts, and so are the other movies I mentioned. All three were wonderful.

Similar tonally.
-The Others
-The Devil's Backbone

Similar moods (at times) but much different otherwise. Still very atmospheric, but more bleak and horrific.
-Absentia
-Session 9

Others posters haven't listed:

Crimson Peak is similar atmospherically, but it's a little more gothic, more special effects and not as good as The Awakening.

Before I Go To Sleep (2014)

The Gift

Rebecca (1940) with Laurence Olivier

Gaslight (1944)

The Innocents

story elements reminded me a little of Night Shyamalan movies. I would love know his thoughts on this film. It also had some Italian style cinamatography... I loved this film!

This film is definitely quite derivative of The Others and The Orphanage (probably even The Innocents), but what company to have.

Great films.
