so it's crappy, more or less?

5.8 as of this posting. Too bad. I was gonna rent it this weekend. Not gonna waste my $1.20 @ Redbox.

Well, pretty much.

I thought it was technically very well made, and the actors are believable, but the characters seem to be under-developed, and they all kinda suck as human beings. It's a weird-ass mix of drama and a bit of subtle black comedy, the latter of which is what made this movie worth a watch (to me). But it is nowhere near the brilliance of a Coens movie or the coolness of a Jackie Brown.

I just wish I hadn't seen this in a crowded theatre (which was completely silent, with a few people giving up and walking out), with my family. At one point I was wishing I had picked Demonic or Into The Woods instead.

So yeah.

The novel is excellent. I was sort of excited to find out a film was made until I seen the cast, or lack thereof. I don't know how you can write what you write and yet say the actors are believable. I thought the writing was poor, given how well Elmore Leonard does plot and characterization. I thought the acting was quite poor. Again, though, the screenwriter did a shtty job fleshing out the characters and the actors didn't seem to care too much about fleshing out their roles either. The film should've been funnier. This is what often happens when a low-budget filmmaker tries to do a classic story.

You can never ever ever go by the point number scoring system

reply

Ditto. For me the rating scores are meaningless.

I gave it a 4. Production value was okay, but the story was terrible and really dragged.

I think so. I had it on at home while I did other things. I kept waiting for it to go one way or the other. It actually took about 30 minutes before I actually thought it was possibly supposed to be funny. I kept watching because I did find two of the kidnappers entertaining to watch as actors. But I would have asked for my money back at a theater.

reply

Only a spoiled bitch asks for their money back at the movieplex.

OP, if you can't afford to waste $1.20 on a red box mistake, you won't like this movie. You aren't the audience that it was made for.

I thought it was great. One of the best movies I have seen in a while. The soundtrack is cool, the dialogue and story and acting are cool, I can see why some spoiled bitches wouldn't enjoy it, but that's not my concern.

reply

Just finished it and I thought it was excellent. Very smart writing and great delivery from the actors. I will be watching it again tomorrow with my Husband as I could tell it is something he will enjoy.

The phucc does that mean? The movie was meant solely for people who don't care about money?

My sister used to watch movies the same way -- and annoy everyone by asking things like "What'd I miss?" "Who's that again?" "Oh, he's still alive?"

Maybe stick to watching movies in a theater...you'll be less distracted.

reply

I only do that when no one else is watching. Besides, if a movie is compelling enough, I will sometimes opt for giving it my full attention. But thank you for your suggestion and for expressing it in a reasonable way. So many people on IMDb are so rude about it! I appreciate having a place to discuss things without venom.

reply

Its more mediocre than crappy, itys not terrible but it just feels "off" fro some reason.

5.8/10 is a very generous rating considering how boring it is, no don't waste any money on it for sure.
