actress who played Cinderella not good looking

Movie could have been great, if they had a pretty looking actress as Cinderella. The actress on this one sucks.

Lot of other people had said this.

My and others' rebuttal is: Ella not being the prettiest is kind of the point. Ella is not ugly, but she is not super beautiful either, from a physical perspective. But her personality is what makes her become beautiful.

She didn't suck. Nothing is wrong with her acting in this film. It was perfect.

That was the idea. An extremely beautiful girl the Prince would want to marry without taking the time to know more about would perpetuate a stereotype and an ugly girl would exaggerate the lesson about beauty not being everything.

I'm sure you'd turn her down.

When you are talking looks; obviously it is all opinion based and subjective.
She was, by many's standards, a gorgeous girl. How can I say that? She's the main character in a movie that came out of Hollywood. And they aren't popularity known for being anything other than good looking, if only that.
That said, even if you personally don't find her attractive, why does it matter? Why does it mean anything to the story? Why aren't you complaining the Prince isn't attractive? Oh....because you're a dude and it's the woman character you have to personally find hot to be credible in a role....
Can we even blame Hollywood for being so ridiculous with people having attitudes like this?

...and that affected her acting...how ,exactly?

Lily James isn't to my personal taste physically either, but I wouldn't say she isn't good-looking. She possesses a lot of the classic Disney princess characteristics. Naturally graceful and elegant, small frame, delicate bone structure, slender figure, beautiful posture and poise. She has a lovely English rose complexion and she plays a sweet nature convincingly. There's more to beauty than one type of face.

I disagree however with the other commenter who stated that Cinderella not being beautiful was 'kind of the point'. That is categorically incorrect. In the original fairytale Cinderella is so beautiful that ashes and rags and hard toil cannot conceal her beauty, despite her jealous stepmother's best efforts. Her sweet nature is a factor too but it is not the focal point of the story. The prince notices her at the ball above all the other women in attendance solely because she is more physically beautiful than any of them, not because of her personality. Heck, in the original Disney they barely exchange a sentence.

This version of the story added in a few extra bits to make it more palatable for a modern PC audience, but still Cinderella's stepmother is jealous of her superior beauty compared to the stepsisters, and the Prince takes a shine to Cinders in the forest initially because he finds her very beautiful. If they'd had exactly the same dialogue but she was an ugly hag, he would not have tried to find her again. It wasn't only her good heart and kindness towards mice that he was after. Sorry, but that's how it is.

The mirror... it's broken.
Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.

It's not that she isn't good looking or is a bad actress, it's that she doesn't fit the Cinderella story. Cinderella was known for her beauty, that's why her stepmother always hated her. This girl is just too plain looking to me. I don't think she fits the part of Cinderella at all. This was at best a mediocre depiction of the Cinderella story as well. =/

I'm amazed and amused that anyone can look at Lily James's face and not find her "good looking". Perhaps her features don't combine to form the supermodel countenance--all the better.
