The car crash (SPOILER)

When she had the 2nd car accident at the end of the film, was it a hit & run?! A pickup with lights on top apparently hit her off the road and stopped for a few seconds....and then just continued on and left her there....to die?!

It just seemed so out of sync with the rest of the film....all I could think of for the whole final scenes was "Why did that truck just leave her there and drive off?!"...What kind of people would do such a horrible thing?!

It was so much of a distraction for me that it ruined the final acts of the movie because it's all I was thinking of.

Yes, that bugged the heck out of me as well!!!! I just didn't get it. What a horrible thing. I was hoping I missed something.

reply

Maybe the truck driver was the one who went for help. After all, apparently someone called an ambulance... /shrug

reply

I think it was necessary for her to be left alone to die for the ending to occur. Like the original accident that cursed her with the non-aging effect, her body went into hypothermia, her heart stopped, and a jolt of electricity brought her back - and thereby restored her ability to age.

It seems odd that the truck was able to drive away. She pulled out in front of him on a highway and the truck t-boned her in the door hard enough to flip her over and into a field. Wouldn't the pickup have broken head lights along with at least a busted radiator. We should have known she would have to some how get in another and equally scientifically phenomenal accident in order for the never love anyone that you will out live theme to be fulfilled.

the truck had an "offroad" crash bar on it.

But it was an older pickup that looked like maybe a 1967 Ford F-150. Motor mounts break in hard impacts and the engine fan slices into the radiator. Off road crash bars are made to push downed trees of small enough size and other such aside at slow or limited speeds. If it's interior was not also modified, then it would have only had lap seat belts as they didn't become standard until around 1974.

Of course it is just a movie and I probably shouldn't bring real life facts into it or else I would have to bust many others including Ryan Gosling character in Drive for doing the exact same thing. He t-boned a large limo and knocked it off a cliff then got out and looked down as his much newer car with plastic molded front end sat there with perfectly straight front end and head lights on.

Crashing into a Saab is like crashing through a piece of paper.

reply

Saabs are not that cheaply built. Maybe if it were a Ford Fiesta or something like that.

I live in South Florida where there's a hit and run in the news every week....that's normal here.

I also live in SW Florida and it's a daily occurrence. People without licenses get into an accident and just leave the scene.

Although in the movie I thought it was a tow truck that hit her and I was surprised they just drove off.

"It was fated to happen . . . she had to die to truly live again."

it seemed quite out of the place, since apparently the crash was her fault doing U turn in middle of nowhere not paying attention to coming traffic, so I don't really get why the guy run away, if they would shown at least it was his fault it would make much more sense he hit and run, but the movie imply pretty clearly it's her fault

also damage on the other car was not visible at all which is pretty unrealistic for such accident, but I guess no point discussing realism in movie about woman who is not aging after experiencing certain circumtances
