Hamm is Don Draper.

I used to think Jon was a good actor based on his role in MM,but seeing him in different roles has me convinced that there is not much range there.
His acting seems to be pretty much just Draper.

In "dramatic" roles, I tend to agree now. For instance, The Town comes to mind. Comments elsewhere on this board about him "trying too hard" I also buy.

But have you seen his comedic roles on SNL for example - dude can be funny and a surprisingly versatile comedic actor...makes me think he could pursue that direction instead.

reply

Yeah, he sucks...cringeworthy

To be fair this role was VERY similar to Don Draper. Slick salesman who dates good looking models and doesn't want to settle down.

reply

No, he makes it believable that he is a completely different character.
If Jon Hamm played this role as Don Draper, the whole movie would not have worked.
I was impressed.

I think he just hasn't found his niche or has been able to get out of his comfort zone. I've seen what his capable of in Mad Men, bad actors cannot pull that off.

Then he is in good company along with various other renowned and acclaimed actors who act exactly the same in every single role, such as Morgan Freeman, Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington and Liam Neeson.
