The Main Actress Was Amazing!

Yeong-hie Seo as Kim Bok-nam was great and she gave one of the best female performances EVER in Asian movies!

Agree or disagree with me?

reply

Agreed. Her role was so diverse and there was so much emotion to it.

reply

I'm glad you agree. I think she is DEFINITELY one of the best ''new'' Asian actresses!

"The Chaser" is one of my all-time favorite South Korean crime thrillers, so my husband bought me a copy. I watched it twice today and realized something...

The character that played the female lead looked familiar, especially the frightened, sad, haunted look in her eyes when she realized she was in serious danger, or yearning for her daughter

(small the Chaser spoilers begin)

(who thank God doesn't come anywhere near as tragic an end as Kim's daughter in Bedevilled). When she was realized she was probably going to die very, very horribly
in Chaser,
(end teeny spoiler)

I made the connection because I remembered that same "I'm in hell, and I don't deserve this" look on her face. I looked it up just now and I was right, same actress.

I honestly don't know, among her character in Bedevilled and her character in Chaser, who had the most wretched, miserable, tragic life.
I think I'd rather eat glass than trade places with EITHER of them. If you could handle seeing her character suffer in Bedevilled, but haven't seen Chaser yet, I highly recommend it if you admire her acting. Hell, see Chaser anyway! It's also brutal but very, very suspenseful, brilliantly acted, and the plot will really pull you in.

Rusty-61, thanks for your recommendation, but I've already seen The Chaser and I've noticed her there.

The Chaser is a very good and suspenseful movie, but I prefer Bedevilled more, because it's more emotional one. If you like The Chaser, check out The Yellow Sea from the same director, Na Hong-jin, and main actors (Ha Jung-woo and Kim Yun-seok) like in The Chaser.

I've looked EVERYWHERE for the Yellow Sea. Did you get a DVD of it, or see it in the theater? The most I could find after hours of searching was the trailer. It sounds AWESOME! And I can't find it... :(

reply

No, I didn't see it in a theater. I'm from Croatia and we EXTREMELY RARELY have an opportunity to watch South Korean (and Asian, in general) movies in our cinemas.

The Yellow Sea is good, but The Chaser is better, you'll see. Anyway, I downloaded The Yellow Sea from BTjunkie, but they don't exist anymore, so you can download it here:

Good to know. Looking forward to seeing The Chaser. This actress was fantastic...and also beautiful (I thought she was prettier than her "white" friend.)

reply

The Chaser was a really good movie.

Did anyone else think that the actress who played Bok-Nam looked a bit of a cross between G.Na and Narsha (both Korean singers)?

reply

Completely. I happened to pause the film randomly whilst checking my mail and I was struck by the raw emotion of the woman's face..and I had to remind myself that it was still a film. She is a brilliant actress.

reply

One of the best performances EVER in ANY movie, by a woman or man. She's astoundingly grand.

reply

Not just Asian movies, of ANY movie.

reply

Yes agree big time it is an amazing and haunting performance. It really helped sell the story as this film is still kicking around in my mind. The ending really was powerful in a sad way! The one girl will be living with some guilt for quite a while it seems.

reply

She was excellent, I agree.
