as if

this kinda thing happens. We all know the misanthropic loner/"loser" in HS never had some magical girl suddenly show all this interest and invite him to parties and become his BFF out of no where, even to the point of being interested/attracted herself and dropping signals (and then getting mad when he totally missed them all lol). But yet still going back to him at the end. I can see maaaybe someone being friendly to that misanthropic kid, for, say, a day or one special class/instance... but, not going anywhere near as far as she did.

I mean. We all went to high school right. It didn't work like that. I think, OUT of school, later in life, is when those boundaries fall and someone like George would have more of a chance, find someone compatible...the stupid "rules" of high school and all that melt away and some people do get more open minded/mature, etc. So I'm not saying he'd be a hopeless case forever. Just -- not while still in HS like how it was in this movie.

I wish she had just left at the end, would have been more realistic.

I went to high school with a guy whose mom flaunted her sexuality all the friggin time like Sally's mother did, and probably had been doing for all of Sally's life. The guy I went to school with seemed like a normal guy who had his act together in every way, but for me there was a sadness about him that made it tough to be around him. With Sally's home life being the way it was, it's plausible she had a difficult time finding friends who she felt would accept her not just for who they saw at school, but away from school as well. After George came to her rescue and kept her from getting in trouble with smoking, she may have gotten the sense she could be herself around him.

As for the ending, it made sense that Sally wasn't motivated to go away with Dustin after she and George finally laid all their cards out on the table. She was only with Dustin in the first place because George was avoiding her.

Agree that it should have ended differently, but then a lot of people would have said they didn't like the movie and box office would have been lower. I guess everyone should just be smart and ignore the ending. :)
