Miles Teller

I rewatched this movie for the first time in a long while and I have some questions regarding his character. Miles was playing himself and when we first see him (grocery store scene at the checkout), the guys make it seem like he was well known/recognizable and a star.

But taking a quick glance at his filmography, Project X was only his 3rd feature film (the previous two- Rabbit Hole and the Footloose remake). I looked up Footloose and it was released October 2011. Project X was filmed in May 2011 so they could not have known him from that film and he wasn’t the lead either.
And then in Rabbit Hole- his film debut released Dec 2010 (Nicole Kidman movie) he had a minor role and it wasn’t exactly a box office hit (low budget Independent movie making $5 million worldwide). Also that doesn’t seem exactly like the type of movie those high school kids would watch.

So I question, how is it that they made it seem like Mikes Teller was this well known star. Remember Project X was before Whiplash, the Divergent series and the 2015 Fantastic Four remake? He was still very new to Hollywood.

I don’t recall but was there a sort of hype towards Miles or was he in the tabloids for something maybe controversial prior to Project X? Maybe I might be thinking this too deep but I found this interesting.
