Terrible

After the old guy killed the bald dude... I would have knocked his ass out, walked out of his store with my daughter, then called the cops.

Or better yet, at the graveyard scene, take his car and drive away; get my wife & daughter, call the cops.

Or I could even have told Yoshida's brother exactly what happened, let them take care of the old man, grab my daughter and drive away.

How about when the policeman approached me? That'd be a good time to end this mess.

Or how about when the old man is kicking my chair. Yeah, I'd pull over and slap his head at that point surely.

When they're kiling Okuba, I could've totally helped him, since 2 guys are stronger than 1 old man + a woman.

Nah man, I'm asian so I'll just keep listening to the old Skipper and continue being his accomplice because he yells really loud! I'm sorry, I didn't buy it at ALL.

What an anti-climactic, dumb, and unsuspenseful movie.

IMDB ratings for foreign films are often times inflated, going to have to start subtracting the mandatory 1.5~2 points that most foreign films get for free.

If you want a true horror story about a mass-murdering psychopath and his several accomplices, that is actually believable, because it sticks strictly to the facts, try the Australian film, "Snowtown" ... if the thought that this really happened doesn't creep you out, nothing will.
But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

Eek. To the OP:
This is loosely based on real events. There are a lot of similar true life cases. The guy was a clear psychopath and most people would follow orders simply out of fright. I guess psychopaths know who they can target.

Riveting tale. Your poor taste in movies is definitely threadworthy.

If you've heard of it, it's already too mainstream for me.

How about no? You didn't like the story. To you it's terrible. I thought it was bleak and depressing and awesome. I think it's great. Opinion is subjective. Enjoy yours, I'll enjoy mine.

Some people don't like certain films; don't find them believable and see the acting as bad. Others are able to suspend their disbelief and be swept away by the story. The director said he was inspired by a true story and that his goal was to "depict a sense of total hopelessness" which he felt is "lacking in Japanese films." I don't think it's his best film, but I didn't find it as badly executed as some of the posters here. A tad too long, but that doesn't make or break a film for me. The real story it was based on ->

Oh God... You seem like a very immature person in general. "If that were me, I would have done this instead", oh really? Sounds like me before I joined the military, claiming I wasn't gonna take any crap from anybody.. And then I met my Drill Sergeant and my attitude changed instantly, end of story.

This movie is an entertaining over the top study of the human psyche. And how one man's repressed life can spiral completely out of control and destroy him. If you didn't like it, then fine that's your opinion. But I think this is one of the best psychological thrillers of all time and very deserving of an even higher rating than a 7.1

starcraftbw88, your version of what YOU would've done - that sounds like a boring-ass movie. The worst "average-Joe" writings, seriously.. would've-could've. Probably would've pissed ya pants, son! Now go to your room!
