"Psychiatric Ward" makes no sense

The woman casually mentions how, when she tried to convince the general or whatnot, she ended up in psychiatric wards and such things.

However, how do you die in a psychiatric ward? Of course it's war, so anything is possible, but shouldn't that have meant that the 'aliens' won the war?

In any case, so many things she says make no sense. Why even lie about her middle name anyway?
