WOMEN GUNMEN??...OH PLEASE!!!! (Possible Spoiler)

Give me a break!

There were not that many women that used guns unless it may have been for hunting....much less going out and hunting people in the old west acting like outlaws or gunmen.

Yes there were exceptions, but THAT WAS NOT THE GENERAL RULE! It was the exception to the rule.

It seems that so many movies are trying to be "politically correct" without knowing their western history very well.

They put blacks and women in roles they simply did not do!

This is one such movie. Two women come gunning for a woman inside the cabin. UTTER CRAP! A lot of blacks and women were treated as second class citizens in the west...not equals. It may not have been right, but neither was slavery, but it did happen!

But because of how it is TODAY with women's rights, a lot of writers think it is cute to put them in roles that did not even exsist.

Even a lot of the stereotype "fast gunmen" were not in real life as they were portrayed in newspapers back then. Some gunman might have killed three people and the papers would print he was responsible for thirty deaths by his gun!

The wild west has been so over exaggerated to the point it is getting stupid! This movie is just one example, but an example it is! I am waiting for a movie to show how the west REALLY was, not as a fantasy land!

Kenny Rogers hosted a TV show about the real wild west. And he also dispelled a lot of myths about it. For example, the posse.

A lot of posse's were not made up of crack shots and marksmen, but were usually made up of ordinary towns people...who when the bank was robbed...had a stake in what they lost, as there was NO FDIC to get their money back from. If a bank robber got away with a towns money, it usually put the entire town in financial straights, unless you may count some old timer who kept all his money at his home under his bed or hidden somewhere.

But please...ENOUGH WITH THE FANTASY that everyone in the west was treated as equals, it simply did not happen!

I agree with what you say. Alot of movies do this and it annoys me to.

Annie Oakley was an entertainer. She had a phenomenal talent for marksmanship, but was not a gunfighter, or even a Westerner, really, coming from Ohio. She never fired a gun at another person, except to hit a held target. She was the subject of many "dime novels", while she toured with Buffalo Bill's Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders.

michaelflatus,
You have offered Bonnie Parker up as a woman gunfighter- the burden of proof is on you. It shouldn't be difficult, if you are right, to come up with a definite example of her having shot someone. Please cite your example.

Quite wrong. I made no assertion whatsoever. I simply requested you provide verification of some kind to support YOUR assertion, which you obviously cannot do. Why is that? In the future, please know what you are talking about before offering so-called information here. There is already too much crap on IMDB. We don't need more. Also, when addressing me, kindly spell your words. Cute text messaging abbreviations may have a place, but not in discourse between grown-ups. Thank you.

Yeah, your life's so busy that you have the time to get on IMDb and engage in the kind of pointless non-debate you had on this thread, but you don't have the time to type like a literate, intelligent person as opposed to a drunken moron? But yeah, ok, it must take so much more time to type the word "words" than it takes to type "werdz". Even though it's the same number of letters. Either you're a lazy piece of sh!t or you're just a dick who's trying to be annoying by deliberately typing in the most idiotic way possible. Either way, knock it off. If you expect to be treated like an intelligent person, then fücking act like one. You'll never get any respect in your life if this is how you communicate with people.

Bonny Parker famously posed for a photo whilst wielding a thompson sub-machine gun. It's quite likely the nearest she got to a firearm, and she probably never fired one. Forget Faye Dunaway and read the truth, documented in several books.

in a world where the word "moron" has lost much of its meaning, the OP truly is this in its purest form

reply

'Moron' is an understatement for the OP.
Maybe he should actually READ some books written on the Old West, and get off his couch and away from his TV. And, as someone else mentions, this is Andean Bolivia, around a hundred years ago.
Oh, Please! Spare me from peoples ignorance.

reply

Moron is too good a word for the idiotic OP. Can you imagine sitting through this movie and not realizing that it was set in Bolivia, not the American West! Actually, women and blacks played a much more prominent role in the American West than movies before 1960 led us to believe. About one-fourth of cowboys were black. As for women, Etta Place, girlfriend of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, also wielded a gun.

Hollywood is changing history, altering facts day after day.
Glad that some people are waking up and think about the lies Hollywood feed them.
And yes you are absolutley right.

reply

i fell asleep halfway through your post

reply

And there were no women who fought in the civil war & WW1 disguised as men. Oh snap...there were! Just because they weren't treated as equals doesn't mean they gave up trying to ACT as equals.

reply

One member of the Wild Bunch was a woman named Laura Bullian. Two other outlaw women who worked with the gang were sisters named Ann and Jessie Bassett.

The west was a hard place to survive. Men and women had to know how to shoot for more reasons than putting food on the table.Marksmanship is something men and women can compete with on an equal level and without doubt many women could probably shoot just as well or perhaps better than their men.

reply

lol, crx has to be the dumbest poster in imdb. Traitor to his race and intellectual *beep*

Of course their were women gunman. What is wrong crx? Emasculated homo?

Hollywood didn't change sheet on this one.

reply

Probably the only part of the movie I didn't like and that was only because the whole posse should have been with the two women, AND then there was a horrible explanation of why it went down that way.
