Plastic boob cover

Why did Charlise Theron wear a plastic boob cover during the only sex scene in the movie?

reply

The idea was to make the scene as unsexual as possible. The plain grey undies under her tights also lend to this. According to director's commentary anyway.

Charlise Theron unsexual? Even silent movies couldn't be more prudish! Reitman reedited and cut Diablo Cody's script into a milked toast of nothing.

reply

I agree that Charlize is completely beautiful and no matter how hard you try you can't "unsexualise" her. I wasn't aware Reitman cut and edited it so much. Mavis and Matt deserved a tender, sensual love scene so it's a shame it couldn't be.

reply

Flashback scenes from high school were edited out and much of the dialog more artificial. Reitman also thanked his kids for watching his audio commentary as if we're all suppose to babysit their tastes while we watch his movie.

I think that's just way out of character for Mavis I think.
I understand the plastic boobs, as they make sense in order for her to make her boobs look bigger, but surely Mavis, who went to great lengths to look as sexy and beautiful as possible every time she was to meet Buddy, would have chosen a different underwear?
I just don't really understand the filmmakers' motivation for doing it this way...

.

reply

Reitman seemed to be bitter about his recent divorce. Look, ie for the party scene where Buddy shoves his hand in Mavis's face.

reply

It's to make her boobs look bigger and hide her nipples without bra straps/outline showing through her clothes.

I want Sean Whalen! I want him bad!

reply

Yeah, that was bizarre. Her dress had just a normal top, not something revealing that would require some kind of special hidden breast support. She could have just worn a normal bra instead of those creepy plastic boob balloons.

FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES.
