OT-ish: Glad to see Disney doesn't have many (if any) remakes this year

What with those misled goons seemingly having LARGELY abandoned new stories (AFTER soullessly abandoning 2d animation out of general greed/personal disdain), they opted to stingily cash in on remake/sequelize whatever surefire dough-makers they could for the most part.

And although there are at LEAST 4 major sequels they're releasing this year ("Sherlock Gnomes", "Incredibles 2" "Mary Poppins Returns" and "Ralph Wrecks the Internet"; aka Disney's "E-fucking-MOJI MOVIE"(!!!)) we've got "A Wrinkle in Time" and "The Nutcracker of Four Realms", a new Disneynature documentary (forget which one regrettably) AND "The Nutcracker of Four Realms" to look forward to over the next 12 months.

And NO "remakes" in that time. Good! Unfortunately, next year will see "Dumbo", "Lion Kash-in", "Mulan" and "Aladdin", along with the heinous sleeping giant "Frozen Zwei" (is that all NEXT year, with no original stories???) I'm glad in many ways, shady John Lasseter took a six-month leave of absence as of this past November (albeit pathetically enough, for sexual allegations and not misguidance in the Mouse House; why do you think equally crooked Bob Iger still hasn't surrendered???)

Yeah, but there's the damn live-action "Aladdin" coming out, when, next year?
So they haven't abandoned their horrible policy of ripping off their own film vaults, damnit.

I think they're funnelling all their funding and attention into the Star Wars/Cash Cow franchise, and neglecting their animation department.

Yeah, it's kinda sad. And "Aladdin" isn't the only "remake" due out next year (or thereabouts); there's also "Dumbo" (which I'm weirdly curious about, despite Tim Gothic Burton directing it, as refreshingly a screen cap of a surprisingly realistic and cute (which the exception of the fake-looking eyes, and of course big ears) baby elephant teased somewhere, so at least it won't be Burton's infamous black-n-white, STRIPED TRUNK or whatever style...), "Lion King" (obvious cash grab for the most part, particularly on the new similar "Jungle Book", which while decent, was ultimately below the 1967 classic inevitably), and "Mulan".

And while it's NOT a "remake" per se (Mr. Coat - a YouTube user - would like to challenge the majority of y'all on the definition of that term) a film chronicling "Christopher Robin"'s departure from Pooh Corner was supposed to be released sometime this year, but I won't be watching it - I haven't been a "pooh" fan in years, myself. And the 2011 animated "reboot" seemed largely an attempt to obscure 2d movies even further, if the company's hasty, unadvertised release of it was any indication...

But it's GREAT you responded to me - on this whole new message boards site, you're only the first person to reply to a post I made on a board that WASN'T the vague "General Discussion"...

A fucking DUMBO remake????

The original wasn't even that good! I mean it has a place in the history of animated films, but it's not actually a good movie that's still enjoyable for adults to watch. Well, except for the "Pink Elephants" number.

Really, it's sounding more and more like Disney has abandoned the idea of making anything original, they're just remaking their own films and carrying on with Star Wars. Foo on them.

Glad I'm not the only one who dislikes their general way of direction these days. But at LEAST the "Mickey Mouse" cartoons being produced on YouTube are something even Walt himself would, no doubt, be proud of. Even if most other things at the studio he founded have gone astray for the time being. Thank God for Mickey. :)
