How did Nat Wolff (Craig) land a role opposite Chritoph Waltz??

I mean EVERY scene with these two fell flat because of Craig. Waltz just destroyed him in everything - Craig was so distracting. I thought Brittany was pretty good though. I liked her in White Lotus as well.
