Terrible writing and annoying music

Not to mention amazingly boring with no payoff at the end. Not the worst I've seen, but pretty bad. That theme song they felt the need to play over and over and over again every other scene...

I lost the remote for my stereo and couldn't turn down the bass...every time the loud droning would come on my floor would rattle and I couldn't hear anything anyone was saying. Had to unplug my subwoofer to continue watching. That aside, I enjoyed the movie overall, despite some scenes where the writing fell short...usually involving the cops. I thought the movie was creepy and I liked the overall tone. I also liked the idea of some insectoid creature who (trollishly) abducts people from under a bridge and makes unfair trades. I don't need to know all of the answers, but I would have liked this aspect of the film focused on a little bit more. Even by the end it wasn't clear why it even gave anything in return, or if it needed to give things in return to take people/things. Did they ever allude to anything being given to the pregnant sister back when her husband was taken? And why did the sister even want to trade herself at the end knowing that when Daniel returned it was only temporary anyway. There doesn't seem to be any rules for its trading so I'm not even sure you can say "well the trade must be of equal value (another human) to make it fair"... Or did she not want to trade and the thing just made a trade anyway? I'd think if it can just trade with any unwilling person it'd have just snatched her up when she was jogging through earlier.

That aside, I was generally okay with not knowing details, and thought the end "trade" for the fetus was wicked and cruel, but fitting. However, I found it a little too absurd that the cops wouldn't investigate the tunnel at the end. As the last poster mentioned, they saw all the articles about the tunnel/underground disappearances, heard the girl's story about Daniel being taken there, found a body outside of there, and at the end the cop even sees a lady there and still doesn't go there. The level of incompetence by the cops wasn't even remotely believable... and almost felt like just lazy writing. The movie would have been a lot better if the cops weren't conveniently complete morons, it really only serves to piss off and frustrate the viewer. Even if they just went in the tunnel, saw the fetus there and then got taken by the creature for taking the fetus...or something. I just hate when writers rely on dumb characters to do dumb things out of convenience.

I still think this was a good movie, but it could have easily been great and just barely missed the mark.
