Mike goes so overboard

My god Mike is the king of overstatement and exaggeration. Everything is humbling and so interesting to him and he's constantly "blown away" and everything connects with him on so many levels or has an "unbelieveable story behind it" and "he gets pulled in" because of the "presence" of a place or an item. Everything is/was his "favorite thing to do" depending on where he is or who he's dealing with. He gets so excited that I don't know now he's able to negotiate for a good price when it's obvious when he really likes and wants something.

Usually he's talking about things that 99% of people would regard as trash or certainly wouldn't pay much for, if anything at all. A good example was in the last episode "Another Brick in the Wall". When he was introduced to that patchwork jacket and the pottery. The way he was falling all over his self because of how it spoke to him and the story it told resonated with him. The jacket was a mess and who would want that and what would they even do with it? Certainly not wear it since it was falling apart. Then later talking about how humbled he is because someone saved a button or a piece of string, lol.

Everytime they do one of those side pieces where he's talking directly to the camera you can bet he'll say something outrageous like "I feel like I'm being guided by some dead person to find some piece of junk or a missing piece to an item.

And his laugh could be the worst I've ever heard come from a man.

Well, bless Mike Wolfe's little pea-pickin' heart!

Mike DOES pour it on very thick.

I like how he "loves" something and "must have" it.

If it was for a personal collection, I could understand. But, Mike is only thinking about how much he can SELL it for ($$$$$).

That kills my interest right there! 

That's always bugged me too. He talks so personally about how much he wants to have an item, you almost forget he's just going to turn around and sell it. I know he's said he gets excited just to have it pass through his hands, but really? I mean, if you're not going to keep it, why get so emotional about it?

I agree.

The "hunt" for something rare is often more fun than the actual acquisition of the thing. I can understand that.

But, Mike hams it up too much -- when we know he's just going to sell it.

Hee, hee. Looks like we've got two shows in common, kitty kitty.

I'm gonna go back to my home planet now, but just had to scratch your belly while I was here.

I don't think I've ever looked for frogs under my butt while I was wearing my Snow White gown.

Lemons! Fancy meeting you here !

 I've only been watching this show on and off for a few months but enjoy having it on in the background. Have actually been watching it this afternoon.

I enjoy seeing the old stuff, but I don't take it too seriously. After all, it's a "reality" show, and we know most of them are staged and scripted.

Their money comes from selling the show to TLC, not from reselling junk.

I missed the episode of TBBT where Sheldon revealed a storage room full of stuff. In fact I think it's the only episode I've never seen. Was there anything in there that would have "really resonated" with Mike? Maybe anything worth "2 bills" that was "a great piece"?

Or some things that Frank could have bundled?

Seriously?

They only highlighted the absurd: A bag full of every toothbrush he ever used and a box of old pine cones. (I don't recall the significance of them to Sheldon.)

But, supposedly, he never threw ANYTHING away!

I'm sure Mike and Frank would have found something.

reply

I see. After asking my question I found a short YouTube clip of the scene. Not much in there that was rusty, dusty or really old. Or "roached out".

Well anyway, I enjoyed our discussion on this planet. I rarely travel outside of the Pasadena city limits.

Now go curl up in the sun.

It amazes me how much people whine and complain about silly things and how much every little thing bothers them. No one is forcing you to watch the show.

No one is forcing you to watch the show.

That's the standard, default Internet response.

Who's complaining? These are DISCUSSION boards, not fan boards.

If YOU choose to sit there like a mute, that is your prerogative, but don't criticize people who have an opinion.

Exactly. Plus that response always kills me. "Don't watch." As opposed to what? All of the networks are filled with this garbage and the cable companies have the nerve to charge what they do. People have every right to complain.

reply

Complaining does squat. You want to see it go off the air? Stop watching and the ratings will go down and the network will kill the show on their own accord.

Ironically the haters only contribute to the show's longevity lol -- so keep right on watching and complaining!

IMDB's ignore user button = priceless :)

reply

Michelle, you're still an idiot.

reply

Who says I'm watching?

reply

Complaining is what starts the process of getting things done, or changed for the better. Complaining is important. People who don't complain have nothing to complain about.

reply

Yes, that's precisely what his fans enjoy; a child like joy and enthusiasm in the otherwise mundane.

I find it refreshing.

Now that you mention it, he does love and have a personal connection to a lot of stuff. I saw the episode and he seemed to love the place and the story behind it(btw, how did the cop afford all that stuff and to buy it all?) I've always assumed Mike to be real and genuine, and found it refreshing that he could love all the things he comes across. But now that you bring it up, can he possibly feel a connection to all of the things he does? If it's an act, he is damn good at it. I would like to think the best in him, but after reading your post and using your logic I am starting to wonder now. I used to love this show before coming to the board here. Almost like I took the red pill and left the matrix... I should have taken the blue pill and stayed blind but happy lol.
