After the 2 episodes, what do you guys think?

I thought it was hilarious, and the effects were nicely done.

I also loved Kenny's new show.

I used to live in Canada, loved Trailer Park Boys. Unfortunately, now I live in Florida, so I can't watch it here. No torrents or streaming on the internet. You are supposed to be able to watch it on Action's website, but it won't work for me (maybe cause I live in the US).

reply

That sucks. I know that they will be posting the episodes on drunkandondrugs.com, but I'm not sure if it will work for people outside Canada.

reply

the effects were awesome but i think its a little early to comment on weather i like it as much as TPB yet. I wonder if there is ANY shot of a second season. I would be curious to know what the ratings are and if it is good for canada since i am used to interpeiting the american ratings

reply

Obviously I'm not going to post any links to download them here, but look harder. There are literally dozens of places to download every single Trailer Park Boys episode. Find an internet savvy friend and they should be able to find it no problem.

I was, am, and always will be a Trailer Park Boys fan but this show is garbage. The boys don't have the acting skills to pull of all these characters and it shows quite obviously. While the low-grade quality and poor acting in Trailer Park Boys was quaint and cute, this comes off as crappy and annoying. Also the Trailer Park Boys has episodes that followed some basic outline where as this is just a jumble of randomness with no direction at all. They wrote it that way and meant for it to be that way but the minature stories of all of the drugged up characters, inside of the main story of the characters trying to figure out what happened, should have better story arcs. The only way to pull this kind of show off is with the mini-stories performing interesting, funny, and short story arcs which they fail at as well.

I hate to say it but this new venture of theirs is a big fail.

Is this not a reasonable place to park?

reply

i take it you were neither drunk or on drugs while watching

anywho... the only disturbing parts for me were their distinct lack of facial hair

what did i think overall? it was either a giant mindfµck worthy of a few more viewings, or it totally sucked.

here's my idea that i think would make it better: make all the characters the same characters from TPB only now they've decided to get into the fictional TV racket, keep everything else the same. that would've been fµcking awesome

reply

You idea is actually a pretty good one. I just started thinking about Ricky smoking and trying to operate a camera and arguing with the director and mispronouncing industry jargon. And then Bubbles being taken off the camera because he kept zooming in too much with his glasses. And Julian trying to act with a glass of rum.

Would have been good.

Ever seen Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job?

I do get what you're saying, but I think it's much too early to judge. There's also the fact that every onscreen performance any of us have seen of these three has been in TPB, and it's difficult to get into anything else they do. To be honest, I never thought John Paul Tremblay was a very good actor in all of the years I watched TPB, but after just two episodes of this I realize I've been wrong this whole time. I almost can't believe that's him playing the Asian radio host.

All I'm saying is don't give up on it yet.

reply

I strongly reccomend being drunk or on drugs while watching the show.

At first I didn't know what to make of it but the second episode helped me see what the show is going to be like and now I'm hooked. I especially loved the ending of the 2nd ep. "boys....... we're invisible".

it's a lot different than TPB, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

It was nice to see the actors again since Trailer Park Boys finished up, but to be honest they really dropped the ball. Even as an alternative media form it lacks content, direction and comedy. With TPB the characters were lovable with this, you just can't get attached to them, it's not written nor acted at the level they'd need to pull off a show like this.

I remember watching Trailer Park Boys and laughing nearly all the way through the episodes, with this I didn't even crack a smile. When they resorted to that fart sequence thing I nearly dry-heaved. Terribly disappointing.

reply

This show bores me, which sucks because I love TPB so much. Also, jesus are the boys gettin fat

reply

This show has some laughs, but a lot of it is pretty juvenile. It's still miles better than Death Comes To Town however.

Quite exciting, this computer magic!

reply

WTF!! I can't for the life of my understand how with three guys writing this show not one of them would say "This show premise SUCKS" if you have a writing team and something like this appeals to all of them then you have the wrong writing dynamic, You need people with MUCH different trains of thought to write a successful show these guys all think way to much alike to write together.

reply

Woah, just WEIRD
I love love love TPB, watched all seasons three times around and then again in HD when it was picked up for US syndication.
I'm also going to their Tour once it comes into town.

This show, maybe i was expecting more TPB, and Cory/Trevor numbnuts or Layhe getting drunk.
It's a left hook that its the 3 boys but just insanely bizarre things going on. I actually didnt know it was Bubbles until he talked. Layhe was a welcome cameo.
I'd imagine its hard for the guys to NOT be compared to TPB after so many season, but the comparison is there. Any other actors in the show and i'd just call it stupid but its clever in its randomness and unpredictability.
The scene transitions are indeed nice going from a speaker to a car speaker or tv set to actual set. I'll give it a few more eps, but only watching because i loved TPB so much and just want to see more from the guys.

THIS SHOW HAS NO LAUGHS

It seems to try for cringe humor but ... nothing. Maybe if they had a crack comedy writing team it would work. I think the vision coulda worked if it had some TPB soul or any humor for that matter.

I came to this post because I was amazed by how badly this show sucks I can't find a draw at all. Then again I might check the next episode cuz I miss TPB + they hinted on a time machine no doubt another let down.

When I saw the trailer for this show like over a year ago my 1st impression was WTF and now I sadly find its just as it seemed.

To those that found this hilarious pls let me know what ur smoking cuz I have a broad sense of humor from Tim n Eric to Curb Your Enthusiasm this show has nothing :(

reply

Only just got it - and yes, I think I've watched TPB at least five times each season (except for the last one which really, really sucked). I was eager to see them do "something else."

Having some hope I'll actually like this becauze I can't stand Curb Your Enthusiasm OR Tim and Eric (want to punch those ugly slobs in the face; I've never laughed at that).

One of the reviews I read online said this show is "surrealistic" and "genius." At least it was positive, right?

Wow I figured Curb was the gold standard for comedy these days. I question someone's sense of humor if they don't like that awesome show. But my point in bringing it up in context of Happy Funtime was to reference it as mainstream comedy to Tim n Eric which is more like Happy Funtime. But Tim n Eric excels in its crazy surrealism + cringe humor where Happy Funtime barely has a comedy pulse, more of a spectacle in sketch. It seems like its more about action under the influence but hell who cares?

reply

"Curb" may be your gold standard but it's certainly not mine. You can keep Tim and Eric as well. Guess our taste in comedy is diametrically opposed. I also liked Happy Funtime.

Everything I've written about the show centered on how bad it was. The only thing I would credit it on was its potential or vision; the execution however failed miserably. I brought up the other shows as counterparts not as a sharing game of shows I like. Its about the show, not you
