What a tragedy it was cancelled

A truly remarkable series, lavish, epic... very well written and acted yet still cancelled... while the likes of True Blood is taken up for another season.

There is no justice.

reply

It is. As cancelled as these boards.

reply

Yeah I liked it alot. Surprised it was cancelled.

reply

I dug it as well. But I can see why it was canceled. A lot of modern audiences don't have much interest in this type of show unless it has dragons.

reply

And lots of unnecessary nudity and sex scenes.

reply

Well this show had both sex and nudity from what I remember.

reply

That’s true, although the nudity and sex scenes were still relatively harmless compared to the series with the dragons. The Borgias was just one of many series that tried to copy the successful formula of Game of Thrones: historical setting, a lot of unnecessary violence, and a lot of unnecessary nudity and sex scenes. Similar things are known from series like Rome, The Tudors, Borgia, Spartacus and others.
Personally, I don’t think much of all these series, because I can’t help feeling that they were penned by 14-year-olds who want to see as much blood and sex as possible. If the nude and sex scenes were at least filmed erotically, but they are not (maybe for a 13 or 14 year old who freaks out at the sight of naked breasts).
Also, I realize with these series that they are merely the product of marketing strategists who have analyzed current audience tastes and created a corresponding product that includes these things.
