I expected some kind of explanation...

I love suspenseful movies, but this one has a zero hint of what happened. I wanted something, but it gave nothing. Some disappearances were easy to see coming, others, not. The young girl in the bathroom knew she was going to vanish...So maybe they all could"feel it".
I loved the humor of the red
head guy.the more famous
actors should of had more
screen time.
I was on the edge of my seat

No possible ending could live up to the kind of thoughts that were forming in my imagination, so I'm glad they ended it like they did.

The ending did tell us the government guys knew about it already. That's why one of them said "Full parameter....quickly". And if it's a crime investigation, you don't just say silly things like that. Then he said "I never blink" which again, tells us he's aware of the circumstances prior to even getting there. So at least we know it's not an isolated incident in that area. A sequel that answers the question "what it is" would be great actually.

reply

I wish they would do a sequel with some kind of explanation. Anything. It would help.

reply

But the blinking was not consistent throughout. Lots of people blinked or looked away or didn't and didn't disappear or did. They should have kept that way more consistent to even name the movie Don't blink, or have the cop say that. I honestly dont think the government knew about it---- they just wanted you to think that. So it seemed like there was a solid explanation and that she might be seemed. Why else do you think they all disappeared?

reply

The 'Never Blink' was more of an expression of how quickly one can disappear. I doubt they meant it literally since everyone needs to blink many times per hour unless they want their eyeballs to fall out lol.

reply

And thinking about it, when she told him not to blink and he said I never do, he probably meant on all his other jobs and in general, he focuses. Not because he had been there before. They all disappeared. They just wanted us to believe the government knew what it was for a sec to believe she might get out of it alive.

Then what did the cop mean by I never do? What exactly can you do to avoid it? That's why this is bull. They kept saying throughout "don't close your eyes, don't look away" there were lots of times people looked away and the person remained there. And she said "don't blink" I guess meaning don't look away? Either way it's inconsistent and the ending was stupid. I still don't think the government knew shi*.

I wanna preface this by saying the movie was pretty bad, however I watched the whole thing so I dunno what that says about its entertainment value :)

The way I read into the movie is that it is a metaphor for life. The entirety of life on the earth... I didn't pay great attention during it, so I can't speak to all of the characters, but here goes:

So the entire weekend, or what was it, a day?, was the span of let's say 80 years (normal life expectancy?)...

There are a few young deaths statistically, so a few people vanish (RE:Die) early in the movie. Let's say before college... EARLY CHILDHOOD-HIGH SCHOOL

Then, the partiers who are drinking (live a fast life) start to die. Still a little younger than the average life expectancy, so earlier in the movie. Let's say this accounts for deaths up to maybe 25... COLLEGE YEARS

A couple other people who suck at life or make mistakes die by 35... (the guy who got scared and took the keys and shot his buddy)... YOUNG ADULTS

The guy who was gone for half the movie... Holy crap, it's _____, I haven't seen that dude for years!!! Oh he's still crazy... boom he "dies."

There are a couple people who have go crazy and die (midlife crises?) --The vegetable girl and the guy who shot himself. MIDLIFE

Then there is the guy who settles down... wants to get married.. and if his girl didn't die at the beginning he would have... or maybe the other chick he cheated on that girl with... who knows, but he woulda ended up married and settled down.. dies in older age .... RETIREMENT AGE

This leaves the girl who was educated, didn't drink, was driven and made good decisions... she also apparently had some luck on her side, but ended up dying by herself .. just as she was getting help from some people (old folk's home? hospice?) she never knew in her "younger years" (RE:Earlier that day)... OLD FOGIE

So there you have it... I think most of the explanations were along the lines of a little too literal... What do you think? Metaphor for life, death, life expectancy? I dunno... either way the movie wasn't that great.. not the worst... but not very good..

As for the vanishing... life will fly by in the blink of an eye... horrible horrible cliché... thanks guy who wrote the movie.. buttttt.... "Don't Blink, because when life is shortened to be compared to a day's time, life is literally over in the blink of an eye"

Personally I feel it was about the journey they took. The reason is irrelevant. It's about their fears, their frustration, their feelings. It's not a movie about a phenomena, it's a movie about people.
I was happy they didn't try to give an explanation. It would have cheapened the storyline.

At the very least I expected a Twilight Zone ending or a ripoff of a TZ ending. No explanation, not even a decent Sci-Fi ending ,I consider a waste of my time.

movies like this that don't give u anything are cheaters. Anyone can write crap like this with no ending whatsoever. but it doesn't make it good

reply

I agree. I thought the same thing. Your point that anyone can write crap with no conclusive ending whatsoever is absolutely correct. It certainly doesn't take a genius...

It takes skill to create a mystery and then provide the WOW! or OMG! ending that blows everyone away. That's why it's so rare. Don't blink had no such ending. It's designed to piss viewers off rather than to instill satisfaction.

The writer and director are the same in this movie and I bet he had a hand in the editing as well to try to tie up some loose ends. Sadly, the entire film was so filled with red herrings and sleight-of-hand contrivances that I fully expected another 'it was just a fever dream or coma fantasy' or 'it was just the twisted memories of an insane killer being revisited while locked away in a padded cell.' Then there is the 'it was just an alien experiment' ending. There was a point during the film that I suspected that maybe the bible thumper girl was correct and that it was God making them disappear. Actually, now that I think of it, it's about the ONLY explanation that makes sense. Instead of the rapture taking everybody at once it takes them randomly with no regard to race, religion, morality or belief system.

I was really hoping for a logical explanation that would've made the time I spent, watching the film and trying to figure out the plot, worthwhile. But no such luck. I might have even accepted the 'it's just a video game' premise if it had been reinforced with the proper cues and hints.

reply

It really, really needed some kind of explanation - at least of hint of comprehension

reply

I feel the same way..I was left at the end thinking "What the F@&^$"?? That's it?" I thought maybe it would continue a bit afterwards, with the man in black saying "I never do" and give some sort of explanation...As for people who are posting things like :metaphor for life..etc..: Did you forget about Noah?? What the hell was that all about? He comes back and then disappears again...I feel like maybe the people who were talking about dimensions and portals might be onto something... I liked the movie up until the ending and unless there's a part 2...I won't be watching it again.

reply

I felt cheated. I'd have taken any ending. A dumb one , an implausible one, anything. Even if the last scene had some sort of strong hint...Other than that it's just a metaphor for life. Still I felt cheated.
