The news on TV (SPOILERS)

When they were watching the tsunami on the news...it showed people on a beach and one of them had a video camera which captured the wall of water coming at them. I don't understand how that footage was on the news. I don't think it was supposed to be news reporters filming on live tv. It was just someone taking video at the beach. So Did they find the persons unbroken camera/SD card after it was submerged in water and broadcast it?
