I'd say 6a is a mid level season if I were to rank it.

for me it's

seasons 1 & 2 were EXCELLENT. i loved the show. i'd recommend it to anyone who would listen to me.

then season 3 happened (if i'm not mistaken it's when Jeff Davis took over the reins of the show) and for the most part the show got worse and worse with each episode/each season. i don't hate this show but it's never ever been close to season 1 & 2's greatness.

the current season 6A is alright (despite the forced Lydia/Stiles gig at the expense of Scott & Stiles's unbreakable brotherly friendship/love). after last night's winter finale episode the show feels wrapped up decently enough. i will be very surprised if 6B doesn't feel pointless.

I think Jeff Davis didn't take over the reins in season 3. He has been responsible for TW from the beginning of season 1.
What changed was that season 1 and 2 were filmed in Atlanta. Season 3 was the first season that they filmed in LA.

And imo they got a bit overconfident with the success of s1 and s2 and tried to do everything bigger, scarier, tried to have more action etc. for s3. That's what started the downfall of TW. I enjoyed s3 very much BUT you could already see that the downfall started there. The plotlines become more convulted, plotholes became more and more, characters changed personality from scene to scene...

Many say that s3b was the greatest season but for me it wasn't. Yes, we got nogitsune Stiles and Dylan did a good job with it. But you could see that Jeff Davis was so focused on writing cool-looking scenes for the nogitsune (he even said in an interview that he had that specific hospital scene in his head and then invented a storyline so that he could fit it in) that he totally forgot the other characters. All other characters were sidelined and got stupid plotlines the writers didn't care about.
A season that is only focused on one character (and only focused on giving that one character as many scenes as possible) while logic and all other characters are disregarded is not a good season imo.
But of course season 2 and season 3 will always be miles better than anything that came after that.

Damn, lots of love for S1!! Maybe I do need to rewatch! I just remember not fully onboard until the episode they were trapped in the school.
