You will hate the lead characters after the first 5 minutes.

This movie is a big fail...

The movie seems to go out of it's way to make you hate the lead characters at the beginning of the film. And because of that, I didn't care if they got killed or raped or whatever. Was this intentional, or was the writing just bad?

Second, the setting is beautiful, however it's shot like a made-for-TV movie. Not cinematic at all.

The "bad guy" character is not not flushed out at all. In fact you only ever see him a few times. Whats his motivation? Why is he so messed up? It's a B horror / slasher flic, so show the horror rather than merely allude to it in a few quick , closely cropped shots.

Listening to a girl talk about how badly she has to take a *beep* is not entertaining - unless your 13 years old. Same goes for random fart gag.

One star.

This is how I felt too. I hated all the characters and couldn't wait for them to die. Another poster said they had to fast-forward through most of this...I did the exact same thing. This writer and/or director should never be allowed to touch anything again.

I'm pretty sure that's kinda the point.

Most slashers go out of their way to make their characters seem likeable (though it usually fails). This one doesn't try, it flat out makes them despicable thus we don't care that they die. Especially in the humorous manner it's done.

It's funny but the only one I even remotely liked was the black kid in the sky blue rubber ducky pajamas lol.

The rest I was cheering to be offed in the worst ways possible.

Just sat down to watch this on Netflix and gave up in the first 10 minutes.

You're absolutely right, all the characters are douchebags. It's not intentional, it's just bad writing. Even worse, it's bad writing that has invaded many of the "new generation" of horror films, where the writer / director just looks for twisted ways to kill people and throw a lot of blood around. I love blood & gore as much as the next sick freak, but I also want to feel like the writer at least *tried* to make a decent plot for the film.

I don't get the opinions here. The girls were bitches right off, but then stopped being so. None of the guys were malicious, even to the gas station attendant, who they were obviously messing with, and let him get away with his own jabs. "Queer porn?" They weren't pointlessly stupid, just people who don't know they're in a horror movie.
The cinematography point sounds like snobbery. It wasn't filmed by Peter Jackson. What a shame.
The bad guy should have been flushed, I agree. An inbred cretin with a sledgehammer. Totally struck out there.
And you're supposed to get that these characters are real people with biological functions. The fart guy is much worse than any defecation. But he's sticking out, trying to keep his friends alive. That makes up for an obnoxious habit.

EDIT: Try watching Crowsnest. THAT is bad cinematography and scumbag characters you want to watch die.

Agreed. The characters in this film were extremely annoying and unappealing. I didn't care if any of them lived or died, which in turn whatever tension this film might have had.

It was mostly the three babes and the Irish dude, John, who were annoying and unappealing. The original three males were just regular guys with the black dude and the dark-haired guy (the one who makes it to the Jeep at the end) being pretty likable. Moreover, the Irish bloke was willing to boldly sacrifice everything to save Jessica. I'd say that's not just likable, but noble and heroic!

Besides, the offensive arrogance of several members of the party in the first act was purely intentional and so exaggerated that it was campy. It was supposed to be amusing and the viewer is expected to roll with it. The creators obviously wanted to contrast this with their serious change in disposition once the hill-jack killer is revealed and threatens them in his element. The severely NEEDED humbled and WERE.

The only one I liked was the nympho chick. The others were douches.
