Common is a terrible actor, ruined the whole movie

It's almost like the guy isn't even trying. No emotions, no variation in speech tone to reflect the mood of the scene. Makes me realize I'm watching a movie and not actually experiencing the story.

Anyway so Common ruined the movie, but Whitaker, Liota and Chiklis were awesome of course.

Seeing Chiklis in action with the British accent was ace, and made enduring Common's terrible performance much more bearable.

So if you loved The Shield and are a big fan of Chiklis, check out the movie.

Liota and Whitaker don't play major parts, but they're okay in the film as well.

Oh and the film is a classic hostage thriller -- cheap, unoriginal, but definitely well produced given the budget.

I'm watching the movie right now and was just coming on this board to post the same thing! The man is just awful! One of the absolute worst actors I have ever seen on screen. His role would have been great for an up and coming actor with some actual talent.

reply

No Common had no common sense.

Interesting. I thought Liotta was lousy. For all his chops, I don't think he did a better job than Common. Yeah, I know I'll take crap, but I'm just saying my thoughts, as does everyone else.

I see him as a poor man's Denzel. A whole lot less charisma

reply

A poor man's Denzel? He shouldn't be compared to Denzel at all. They share nothing in 'Common' except race.

Common's been in quite a few good films and delivered an okay performance (Date Night, Smokin Aces, American Gangster etc).

But the worst thing for me, being a Brit, was that absolutely awful accent Michael Chiklis has throughout, no idea why they chose to make him British, when they could have him with his native voice, or cast another Brit like they did with Max Beesley.

Ah well, pretty average film overalll, not terrible, not great.
