What if Feyd-Rautha

Spoilers

What if Feyd-Rautha had won the fight and killed Paul? Would the Fremen back off since Feyd won fairly and with honor? Also, Feyd won the fight with the emperor’s own blade. Would the emperor marry him to Irulan and make him the heir to the thrown? I always wanted to see an alternate version where Feyd wins and gets the respect he deserves. For him to almost have won and not have the advantages of Bene Gesserit training or be the Kwizatz Haderach is quite impressive.

Actually, if you look into the lore, the original plan the Bene Gesserits had for their breeding program was for Lady Jessica to have a daughter with Duke Leto. The daughter, when she came of age, would have been married to Feyd Ruatha to bring peace between the Atreides and Harkkonen families, and their child was supposed to be the Kwisatz Haderach.

Lady Jessica messed that up because she chose to disobey and have a son instead, gave birth to the Kwisatz Haderach early, and waited until it was way too late, and then have a daughter long after one could have been married off to Feyd (although to be fair, I wouldn't want to send any women to that planet, after seeing how horrible life is on Geidi Prime or in the Harkkonen court).

In the books, Feyd was not bad at first. It was when the Baron took an interest and brought him to his court to raise him is when he was corrupted. He still might have been an effective emperor. I am sure most of the empire would have preferred that, and there would have been less conflict. Ultimately in the long run, they would all have been doomed with the return of the machines without Paul winning and the God Emperor to follow, and create the Golden Path.

I'm afraid he would have made a terrible emperor, and I'm glad Paul killed him.

Although that does make sense with the Golden Path, now that I think about it. It never occurred to me that people might remake the AI machines and bring about a second Bulterian Jihad that would destroy humanity forever. No wonder Paul and Leto II did the things they did.

reply

Machines had survived from the original war and fled to the far reaches of space, and began rebuilding.
