If eveything goes back to normal then the chain starts again. Boy grows old, boy goes back in time...

not just a plot hole, but a huge crater of an issue for me!

I disagree. The boy had invented the time machine after he had had such a rotten childhood that he wanted to change his past. He got a second chance in life so most likely he did not end up in a group home, and therefore did not turn out bad nor did he invent the machine. I think. lol
