This movie is crazy... but the Assassin didn't fail his mission

Absolutely horrifying and disgusting....

But it's also a pretty good look into the concept of hell, a truly brutish and unforgiving nightmare filled with endless forms of torture and sadism. Truly sickening stuff..

I'm a little perplexed at a lot of the people who misunderstood the "Assassin's" purpose, though. I kept reading reviews where they said he didn't find what he was looking for... but... he did?

[SPOILERS AHEAD SO STOP READING IF YOU PLAN ON WATCHING THE FILM]

The Assassin was one of many who was tasked with going down into said hellscape and blowing it to smithereens. That's what the bomb in the briefcase was for.

The journey was long and perilous and his map was falling apart the further in he went. Eventually it crumpled into nothing as he reached his destination, the pit with all the briefcases from the previous Assassins who had journeyed that far and then died.

Not sure if they were able to set the timer to the bomb the way he did, but he at least got that much done before being captured, eviscerated, a hole drilled into his brain and a camera inserted into it (definitely the most gruesome sequence in the entire film). Unfortunately due to time dilation the bomb in the briefcase did not go off.

Basically you could see throughout his journey various other Assassins made it to other points and then perished or gave up. Many of them ended up at the point where he did and then were captured and had the same thing done to them as it was done to him.

The only solace (though not much) is that when the refined jewels were thrown into the cosmos, the time was briefly set back to normal and the timer on the bomb resumed. Unfortunately we don't get to see what happens, but I guess it's left to the viewer's imagination that that entire hellscape was blown to bits, especially (hopefully) with a chain reaction taking place with all the other bombs going off in their respective briefcases.
