I'm sorry to hear that this show wasn't picked up for a 2nd season. My nieces and I enjoyed watching the show. I accidentally stumbled upon the show while surfing through channels and it got my attention after the first episode.

It always makes me sad to see shows like these not to get a chance to develop the potential story lines.

reply

It's such a shame that there's not going to be a second season, it was such a good show, and those ideas you had for the second season were also pretty good, showing some more character background, a pity we won't be able to see them in action.
I hope you have better luck on your next show, and also that it'd be as good as this one.

Sorry to hear it wasn't renewed. It was a good show.

I'm fairly certain my heart stopped and I almost started crying when I heard the news. And I'm 20. Man I am SO Pissed at CN! And that blurp about what season two held just made me want to cry more! I wanted to know about Jasper's mom! And I wanted Jasper to kiss Maggie! And I wanted to see Henry with a girl! Is there nothing we can do? Will the show even get released on DVD or should I resume buying them on iTunes? Man, this totally ruined my Thanksgiving. :(

Are you watching closely?

reply

Yeah I'm almost 28 and I enjoyed it too. I'm not reading about season 2 because I don't want to be more upset.

Dear Mr. Werb:
I am sorry that the show got cancelled. I quite enjoyed the show and was hoping to see a second season. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Henry and Jasper change from distant cousins to a close brotherhood. I was glad to see Maggie wasn't the dumb blonde of the group but the klutzy brain. As a 27 year old woman I am glad to see shows where both boys and girls are shown to equally intelligent (even if its on different subjects).

Wow - this is extremely disappointing! My 10 year old son keeps asking when it is going to come on again. I am in my 40s and really enjoyed watching this with him. A well done show, fun, with great story lines. I feel it would have done much better on another channel. The Cartoon Network is not where I would expect to find a show like this. I feel like that had to hurt it. I can't believe there isn't another network out there that wouldn't want to pick this show up. It is really driving me nuts how shows can't seem to get any momentum. It is almost not worth it to get started on a show these days as the majority of them seem to get cancelled before given half a chance!

reply

My 10 year old was DEVASTATED... We had found a great family show which was different and lacked the sarcasm/cutting so common in a lot of writing today. We tried the Tower Prep and appreciated it for similar reasons, but it is "darker" and more sci fi, and we just liked Henry et al's characters and the ambiance better.

I can't find out anywhere if UH is being shopped around?????? What is the chance it might be sold to another network? WAAAAYYYY too good a show to ditch so "easily". It has made me bitter toward CN. While I totally understand it was experimental to go NON cartoon on CN, honestly, it became the ONLY reason for us to watch CN... and we were recommending it to many who were getting excited about it. :(

reply

It didn't get renewed?? Why? it was a great show!

we did try to shop it around, but it's very difficult to move a cancelled show to another network. and even more difficult when you are an hour-long show keyed at the kids/family demo (99% of them, as i am sure you know, are 1/2 "comedies.") unfortunately, we had no luck -- but i am grateful to have had the opportunity to create a show that i would have watched when i was your son's age. sincerely, mike werb

Ahhh, I'm just finding this.

Sorry to learn the show's been let go. 42 year old mom here. We really enjoyed watching this with our 11 y.o. son.

Best of luck with your future endeavors, Mr Werb.

This was literally the first show that my 12 year old and I could watch together that we BOTH truly enjoyed. He got excited everytime he knew the history of something. I can't tell you how much VOLUNTEER research he did on things he saw on the show....and for a 12 year old to do anything "learning related" on a volunteer basis is a miracle. We just both learned of the show's demise after researching to see when season 2 would begin, and are both wondering why all of the GREAT SHOWS get cancelled!! I hope your ideas become a book series for 10-14 year old boys (and 34 year old moms!). Good luck to you!

reply

I knew something was up when it was gone from the Cartoon Network section of Kids on Demand channel..... :(

I really enjoyed this show and I am 31!

Not even a direct to video movie? :(

reply

That's too bad it wasn't renewed, I really like these types of edutainment adventure programs.

reply

Mr. Werb,

Somebody brought this up on Jordan's facebook page. Would it be possible to make an UnH movie about their adventures in Mongolia and kind of giving us fans closure for the series? This would make so many people happy.

reply

ibejammin: i would like nothing more than to do that. i had planned on a 2-part opener for season 2 with extreme adventures involving genghis khan's tomb, a mongolian death worm, henry's disappearance in a sand storm ... and something surprising involving the relationship between jasper and maggie (which i will not reveal, so don't ask). the trouble is -- we no longer have a network to broadcast and without that warners tv will never finance a movie of the week (they own the rights, not me). on the feature film side, i seriously doubt warners would fund it.

reply

"and something surprising involving the relationship between jasper and maggie (which i will not reveal, so don't ask)."

Aww man. haha.

Anyway it's still so sad it got cancelled. Cartoon Network just sucks. They sabotaged the finale by moving it back a week to compete with the glee premiere. It's like the network just wanted it to get cancelled. *beep*

I cannot tell you how disappointed I am to hear that this show has been cancelled. I am the mother of two girls (ages 7 and 11) who absolutely adore UnH. And I have loved it as well. It was one of those rare gems these days - a family-friendly show with good kids, history, mystery and adventure. It is so hard to find any non-comedy family shows these days, not to mention the fact that the comedies all sadly portray the kids as sarcastic and disrespectful. I truly believe Unnatural History would have done even better on a more "major" network. The truth is that although my girls talked up the show with their friends, many had just never heard of it. We ourselves heard about it by word-of-mouth as we NEVER watched Cartoon Network prior to Unnatural History. Again, so disappointed, but thank you for a summer of great adventure and letting us meet Henry, Maggie, and Jasper. -AA

My daughter adds....won't NBC, Nick or Disney take it on?

antillbiz and everyone who said such nice things: i am sorry but we have been unable to secure a second season from another network. the reasons are too tedious to get in to. but thanks for loving what was. it's nice to hear that the show i intended to make (a show that parents could watch with their kids without ripping their eyeballs out -- and vice-versa -- with some educational value however fictionalized) reached the right audience -- even if that audience wasn't quite large enough for the network. there's some website on facebook where people hit "like" to request that warners release the season on DVD. in case you are on FB and so inclined - i think it's called "unnatural history dvd release." anyway, wishing you all a happy, healthy 2011. mike werb

Mr. Werb,
Fabulous show. Well written, great cast. I looked forward to the next show when the other one ended. I couldn't wait for tuesday nights. They were exciting, like indiana jones meets degrassi except with depth. Keep trying to get someone to pick it up. A different night or try teen nick or nick or put together your own network! Thanks, unnatural history fan

I know I'm way late (saw a Yahoo! article on 2010-2011 cancellations), but I'm sad to see this go. I'm not nearly competent enough to be a parent in my current situation, but I am a young adult who loved the show and watched every episode -- it was fun, it was educational, it was an adventure. It reminded me of mid-late '80s shows growing up, shows that I remember fondly, shows that have had an influence in what I've become today. Surely these types of clean, fun, educational, family-oriented shows have a place for viewers nowadays?

Anyway, best of luck to you, and good luck with your future endeavors.
