When did the Jump Street movies become universally hated?

Seriously. Both were well-reviewed and well-liked by critics and audiences alike and both were very successful at the box office.

Now when this comes around attempting something similar, people's argument is that the Jump Street movies were hated and therefore this will be, too.

Can someone tell me what alternate universe these people are from?

What utter nonsense. 21 Jump Street was not the first movie to turn a TV show into a comedy. There was Starsky and Hutch and I don't even think that was the first to do it either, just an earlier example.

Jump Street was hated? Maybe before they were released. Channing Tatum sure has a lot of haters. Jonah Hill has his fare of haters too. While Ice Cube, Seth Rogen and Queen Latifah surely don't help.

I too was not interested in the movie because of the cast. Yet after seeing the movies, I don't hate them anymore. They were funny and actually one of the best comedies in recent times. Obviously far better than whatever Adam Sandler churned endlessly.

Zac Efron is also hated immensely, I think. The Rock, however, is one of the most cheered action star today. It has Daddario, which is hot and seemingly liked by many. And there's also The Hoff and Pamela Anderson. Who doesn't love them?

So it's maybe just Efron. They shouldn't put his name so big on the poster. It should have been Dwayne Johnson and Alexandra Daddario only.
