Token black guy

Why do movies feel like they need to add at least one black character otherwise they may be labeled as racist? It is so obvious when you get a movie like this. 7 white college kids and one black guy just hanging out. His hair in dreadlocks. I don't know. It is just so obvious and it gets tiring when I see movies like this where it's obvious the only reason a black character was added was so they can say "see we have a black actor in here too". I see movies like this all the time. 6 white kids and one black. 5 white kids and one black.

Anyways, still thought the movie was hilarious.

If they were all white then people would be complaining about no diversity.

If they were all black then people would be calling it "exploitation".

If you pair a black with a white, it's 'cultural appropriation'.

If you pair a white with a Mexican then it's pandering.

If you pair a Mexican and a black then everyone's cars get broken into.

You just can't win.

I think you are right. It was a play on the black best friend angle. Did he ever say anything like "Damn"! or "That's whack"?

reply

wow, I didn't realize he even had dreads! I had to go back and watch a scene with him just to double check!

What's sad is the IMDb page for Tucker and Dale vs Evil (2010) doesn't even show a still photo with the actor in it. Shame shame shame.......

Because if they don't include at least one black character they will be labeled as racist.

Someone complained there were no female leads in Boondock Saints
